I need you to develop a plan so you can boost your skills to become more qualified for the job you chose.

The Rubric

  • The deadline to complete this assignment is September 30 by 1159 PM.
  • The assignment is worth 50 points.
  • Any late work will be penalized with an automatic 25-point penalty. No exceptions.
  • Submit the assignment on Blackboard.
  • Use an 11-point font, standard margins, and double-spacing.
  • You need to write at least 4-pages for the assignment.
  • Do not include my questions when you write the assignment. Instead, format it like this:

The Assignment

Your goal is to search for and find two (2) actual careers related to sport management and to self-assess the extent to which you are actually qualified to be the best person to be hired for this position. I need you to develop a plan so you can boost your skills to become more qualified for the job you chose. Even if you do not feel like you want to work in sports, you are still required to do the assignment. So, if you’re a non-sports fan majoring in Accounting, you can still search for careers working in Accounting for a company engaged in sport in some way.

 

Getting Started

You can choose from any type of job related to sport management. You might want to look for a position related to your major, your past experiences, and your career goals.

The key for this assignment is that you find real jobs that you could actually compete for right now! Don’t suggest you want to be the President of the Dallas Cowboys right now, please.

The types of careers in sport management relate to (among others):

  • Management of a sports business, team or organization.
  • Marketing of a sports business, team or organization.
    • This may include digital and social media marketing.
  • Public Relations and promotion of a sports business, team or organization.
  • Personal selling for a sports business, team or organization.
  • Representing talent for a sports business, team or organization.
  • Financing of a sports business, team or organization.
  • Human resources related to of a sports business, team or organization.
  • Information technology related to of a sports business, team or organization (database management, website and app development, etc.).
  • Accounting for a sports business, team or organization.
  • Any other ideas that you want to suggest!

    • Note that these sites are free but they may ask you set up an account in order to search.

  • For each of the 2 jobs you found you must do the following:
    • Identify the company you will be working for, if hired.
    • Identify the title of the position you are applying for.
    • Identify the starting salary (if shown).
    • Identify the maximum earning potential (if shown).
    • Identify all the specific qualifications the employer is asking for. List them separately like this:
      • Specific types of experiences.
      • Specific types of skills.
    • Identify the day-to-day on-the-job work activities, as described.

      • will you be selling?
      • Other activities?
    • Search the web and find and describe more information about each of the jobs you chose by searching on the web.
