CLASSMATE’S POST
I think that there are several leadership qualities that are necessary and desirable in any law enforcement profession. I do believe that the technical expertise is different when comparing correctional staff with courtroom security and services; however, the leadership qualities are similar and compatible from one area to another. For example, courtroom security will encounter civilians and criminals all in the same room while correctional staff will deal with nearly exclusively those that have been charged or convicted of a crime and could separate people based on classification. These factors impact the tactics and approach taken when carrying out their responsibilities and duties. Despite these differences, leaders in both professions are expected to demonstrate good judgement, attention to detail, good organization skills, good time management, and the ability to communicate effectively. Leaders in both professions are expected to manage large groups of emotionally vulnerable people, could notice abnormal behavior, be able to empathize with others regarding dealing with issues, and be able to resolve conflict well.
