What are the differences between outcome objectives and communication objectives?
Communication objectives are steps that are taking in between to accomplish overall program goals as completed by detailed behavioral, social, and organizational objectives (Schiavo, 2014). Communication objectives are implemented to raise awareness, increase knowledge, end the cycle of misinformation, change opinion, belief, or decision, facilitate interactions, improve and enhance skills (Schiavo, 2014). Outcome by communication objectives is driven from the many parts of the process of change where communication can be effective. The difference between the outcome objectives and communication objectives is that the communication objectives should be very detailed and outline exactly what the outcome should be, which will determine if an objective has been met. SMART is a great model to develop measurable outcomes of communication objectives that can be used to receive specific program goals and achievements.
Develop an example of each type of objective for a health issue of your choice.
An example of a health issue example under the communication objective for Childcare and Education Obesity Prevention Program would include:
- Raise awareness by getting communities, schools, and parents to incorporate healthy eating habits and provide healthier meals, and physical activity efforts for children even if it just walking for 10 to 20 minutes per day.
- To Increase knowledge by improving the Early Care and Education environment of Day Cares and other child care and early education services to provide information on what children should eat, drink, and how active they should be as well as educating workers and individuals on ways to help children develop healthy habits for life (“Childhood Overweight and Obesity,” 2018).
- Breaking the cycle of misinformation by implementing surveillance systems that will monitor health care issues on obesity in children and provide feedback on whether this healthcare issue is improving or failing.
- To Change behaviors by implementing affordable nutrition programs and SMART goals so that information provided to parents, teachers, schools, are specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and time-bound which will help maintain motivation in decreasing obesity.
- To facilitate interactions by engaging and focusing on obesity prevention struggles in childhood obesity while trying to implement additional methods of prevention that are much more extensive than dieting and exercise.
- To build expertise and skills by the constant continuation of education and social marketing strategies to increase the knowledge and skills of individuals associated with weight change that will promote promising responses to changes at the environmental or policy level (Wolfenden, 2020).
