Speaking Assignment 2: Developing Your Vocal and Physical Delivery. For this assignment, you will prepare and deliver a 2-3 minute commemorative speech. You can commemorate an impactful person (such as a change agent, local hero, or a family member that has had a large impact on your life), a place (such as a not-for-profit organization), or both if you are discussing a specific example (such as how Danny Thomas created St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital). Your goal is to use the elements of nonverbal communication, including vocal inflection, physical gestures, eye contact with the camera, and the effective use of time to help your audience understand, interpret, and respond appropriately to the commemoration. You should deliver this speech in manuscript style utilizing notecards or from memory. Your grade is entirely based on your delivery and presentation skills, so be sure to practice before you try to record.
