Howard Gardner’s framework of intelligence is based on all individuals having varying degrees of intelligence from 8 differing categories: musical, intrapersonal, kinesthetic, interpersonal, naturalistic, linguistic, logical, and visual. A selective impairment that follows a brain injury due from example a stroke or accident, one of these categories is injured and this portion of intelligence is effected (Klein, 2012). Gardner assembled workings from brain injuries to demonstrate how each physical or psychological impairment coincided with the area of the brain that was effected. From Gardner’s findings, the education of brain intelligence has had an enormous impact in school settings (Arnold & Fonesca, 2004). Brain science has offered teachers that opportunity to learn more about how the brain receives information for learning and how to apply these practices or insights in the classroom.
Fluid intelligence is the ability to problem solve through daily scenarios (Martinez, 2013). If problems or situations arise and the solution is not within your current knowledge, fluid intelligence permits you to solve the problem and use critical thinking. Crystallized intelligence is the “ability to acquire knowledge, often in verbal form” (Martinez, 2013, p. 326). This knowledge is based on an individual’s previous life experience that changes over time as our experiences grow with more maturity and exposure to situations.
