Provide a 8 pages analysis while answering the following question: How to Use a Digital Multimeter. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide. An abstract is required. A digital multimeter is a device that can be used to measure current, voltage, and resistance among various devices in a circuit. Its effective and efficient use requires a thorough understanding of the key concepts of electricity, and that is what this document serves. It explains the key terms that are used while working with the multimeter, how to connect the multimeter to various components to take various measurements, precautions to take while using the device, and the device limitations. The guide gives and illustrates briefly an overview of most of the symbols used to make circuit diagrams and their meaning. A glossary at the end of the document gives an alphabetical list of an overview of the abbreviations and terms used in the guide.
All these functionalities have specific devices for measuring them but a multimeter combines them on a single device. A knob on the multimeter is used to change between these functions. The multimeter is usually used in areas involving DC and AC currents. In this guide, only DC circuits have been put into consideration but key observations about AC counterparts have been mentioned.
The main advantage of using a digital multimeter as compared to analog ones is that they are easier to read which reduces interpolation errors and they are more accurate. They are important in circuits and components measuring, testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
Digital multimeter varies in size, price, and capabilities. Size ranges from small hand-held to large ones. Hand-held devices operate on a battery that must be replaced periodically. Large multimeters operate on AC voltages hence there are more accurate but are quite expensive.
This user guide will put into focus the hand-held multimeters since they are readily available and can be easily used to demonstrate the major capabilities of the device. This guide illustrates how the multimeter measures voltage, current, and resistance. Other aspects such as continuity, frequency, and capacitance can also be tested but will not be described in this guide. The appendix which is written at the end of the document gives key references that can be used by the user to get the details. .
