Based on this critic some concept develops forming its branches. They include trauma, cognitive and psychoanalytic criticism. Therefore, in integrating literary works and psychological sphere, one is able to create a powerful aspect into literary criticism, which is scientific in nature. In relation to the above, the base of this essay is to try to dissect two authors’ writings from a psychological perspective. For instance, Nathaniel’s ‘young good brown’ and Edgar’s ‘the tell-tale heart’ and ‘the cast of amontillado’.
In relation to ‘Young Good Brown’ by Nathaniel, it clearly shows how brown’s actions had many motivating factors. Based on his psychology, brown see himself creating more haste on his current evil purpose. His conscious mind affects him compelling him to attend the witch- communion in the forest. He tends to care less on effects that will arise from this communion. In addition, his instincts greatly enhance his actions. This is because he feels he is going to achieve something from the communion.
Finally yet importantly, based on motivating factors, he had faith and this kept him going even if the forest was that scary with dark and dreary paths.Brown embarks on a scary and terrifying journey. The motive of this journey is to meet the witches and demons in the communion. Although his family lineage was Christians, brown decides to deviate from that and follow the evil way. In relation, this quest also involved the welcoming of a certain woman to the evil service during the communion. In addition, brown engage in the journey to go revive himself with the evil.
On his way, he meets different people who also have the same interest as him. For instance, fifteen minutes after his departure, he comes across a man who scares him at first. Based on the psychological analysis, although he gets scared, his goal does not change. This implies that his mind is not affected.
