During developmental tasks, a person is expected to acquire specific activities as they age. These tasks varies from culture to culture. Society and environment plays an important role on a person’s capacity to develop certain abilities, as from being a baby, they start learning from others. Every culture has different expectations of their people, and the capacity to acquire an ability decreases as they age. For example, it could be easier for a person to learn a second language as a toddler, but extremely difficult, and almost even impossible for an elderly person. This is, because certain abilities are present at a specific age, they are developed at a specific time of life. Developmental tasks goes hand by hand with psychosocial crisis. A person is expected to behave, act and react is a certain way as they age. This type of crisis is positive reaction when it stresses a person to learn and achieve a certain goal; however, a kid who is never taught the value of things, how to earn things, consequences, and responsibilities, can grow up to be an unsuccessful person, due to facing different circumstances where he does not know how to react and undergo a negative crisis and lead them the wrong way.

As mentioned on chapter 3, there are different developmental tasks expected according to age. On page 69, there is a table that lists what is mostly expected at different ages. These expectations vary depending on their culture and the family environment and traditions.

As a personal experience, I think I matured at a younger age, and I believe it is related to experiences and my surroundings that allowed me think ahead and more responsible. I have also seen in other people where their expectations are higher and they develop an specific ability before I even thought possible.

If the developmental tasks vary from culture to culture, how can we deduce what should be and what is not necessary in our lives? That, I think, we decide, as we  can also develop self expectations and individuality. We also have to make sure we try to be on an environment that is more likely to share our ideas, as we have to be aware that adaptation is essential for survival.
