- Describe a time when you or someone you know had to overcome functional fixedness. How did you or they do it? Describe human factors issues where functional fixedness could be advantageous, and where it could be detrimental. How could you design around that detriment? After reading the GCU Statement on the Integration of Faith and Work, explain how an individual who has a Christian worldview might overcome functional fixedness? How might they approach a problem in a different way than someone who does not have a Christian worldview?
- Discuss a current journal article related to problem solving. Briefly describe the study, its findings, and a brief description of why you chose it.
In a paper of 1,250-1,500 words, describe a real-life transformation problem that you encountered. What specific operations did you conduct to reach the goal state? Did you know the goal state prior to addressing the problem? If so, did it shape your methods of dealing with the problem? If not, would knowing the goal state beforehand have altered the way you addressed it?
