Discuss the topic in relation to home health or hospice nursing roles– Apply your findings to your nursing roles by proposing what you (nurses) can do to enhance the individual/family’s quality of life through nursing assessment, interventions

1. Present key information about the topic as appropriate (e.g., definition, overview/background, significance, the impact of the chosen topic). Tie your discussion to either home health, hospice, or palliative nursing (not acute care nursing). 2. Discuss the topic in relation to home health or hospice nursing roles– Apply your findings to your nursing roles by proposing what you (nurses) can do to enhance the individual/family’s quality of life through nursing assessment, interventions (e.g., direct nursing care, health promotion, health education, and disease prevention), and evaluation. 3. When you write, focus on one area of community-based nursing fields- home health OR hospice OR palliative care. If you really want to do both(e.g., home health and hospice), you must be able to discuss the differences in nursing roles. For example, if you choose a cultural competency topic and you want to discuss both home health AND hospice nursing roles, you will discuss the differences between home health nurse and hospice nurse roles. Home health nurses may focus on improving the patient/family health by considering their cultural beliefs related to religion, traditional beliefs, family traditions, etc. Hospice nurses may focus on helping the patient and family prepare for death, loss, and grief based on their cultural beliefs.

In a 500-word essay, write a statement of personal and professional belief. Answer these questions: “What motivates you? What’s your professional passion? What do you believe?”

First project, “Identify Core Beliefs

In a 500-word essay, I would like to know what you value and what’s important to you about your profession, industry, career, or education. This requires a level of introspection that no one else can reach for you. Use the following suggestions, adapted from the This I Believe, as a guide:

  • Name your belief—If you can’t name it in a sentence or two, your essay might not be about your belief. You are writing an essay, not a list, so focus on one core belief. You will define, explain, and develop ideas about this belief through the essay.
  • Tell a story—Be specific. Ground your belief in specific events of your life. Consider moments when your belief was formed, tested, or changed. Think about your own experiences in work and life and share things you know that no one else does. Make sure your story ties to the essence of your professional or educational philosophy and the shaping of your beliefs. Tell how you reached your beliefs, and if they have grown, what made them grow. Your story need not be heart-warming or gut-wrenching—it can even be funny—but it should be real.
  • Be positive—Please avoid preaching, editorializing, or finger-pointing. This essay should explain what you live by and what you believe, not what you don’t believe.
  • Be personal—Avoid speaking in the editorial “we,” the projecting “you,” or the accusing “they.” Make your essay about you. This essay should not be about your views on society or the world; it should be personal to you and your professional or educational journey. Speak in the first person. Read your essay aloud to yourself several times, and each time, edit it and simplify it until you find the words, tone, and story that truly reflects your belief.

Do you agree or disagree with the way that a patient obtains Personal Health      Records (PHRs)?

Case Study: A 65-year-old woman was just been diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She was informed of this diagnosis in her primary care physician’s office. She leaves her physician’s office and goes home to review all of her tests and lab results with her family. She goes home and logs into her PHR. She is only able to pull up a portion of her test results. She calls her physician’s office with this concern. The office staff discussed that she had part of her lab work completed at a lab not connected to the organization, part was completed at the emergency room, and part was completed in the lab that is part of the doctor’s office organization.

The above scenario might be a scenario that you have commonly worked with in clinical practice. For many reasons, patients often receive healthcare from multiple organizations that might have different systems.

As you review this scenario, reflect and answer these questions for this discussion.

  • What are the pros and cons of the situation in the case study?
  • What safeguards are included in patient portals and PHRs to help patients and      healthcare professionals ensure safety?
  • Do you agree or disagree with the way that a patient obtains Personal Health      Records (PHRs)?
  • What are challenges for patients that do not have access to all of the PHRs?      Remember, only portions of the EHRs are typically included in the PHRs.

Is the Cougar’s use of the logo on the highlight films protected by the fair use doctrine?

Instructions
Copyright Scenario

Jim Clark, an artist in Birmingham, submitted his logo design for the Birmingham Cougars football team, and the Cougars used a logo design that was very similar to Clark’s design for their team logo during the 1996–1998 seasons. Clark sued the Cougars for copyright infringement for using his design as their logo without his permission, and the court ruled that the Cougars had improperly used Clark’s design for their logo and had infringed on his copyright of that design. The Cougars changed their logo for the 1999 season, but they started showing highlight films from their 1996–1998 seasons in their stadium, on their website, and on their television channel, and the logo that Clark had designed and that the Cougars had improperly used during those seasons appeared in the highlight films.Clark sued the Cougars a second time, alleging that the appearance of the logo he designed in the highlight films was, again, copyright infringement. The Cougars assert two defenses to Clark’s claim of copyright infringement the second time around.

  1. The Cougars contended that their use of the 1996–1998 logo in the highlight films was protected by the fair use doctrine.
  2. Since Clark and the Cougars were both citizens of Birmingham, there was no commerce among the states or interstate commerce involved, so Congress had no authority to make laws that protected Clark’s copyright.

In a two-page case study, address the questions below.

  1. Is the Cougar’s use of the logo on the highlight films protected by the fair use doctrine?
  2. Is the Cougar’s claim that Congress does not have the power to regulate copyright within a single state valid?

As you answer these two questions about the Cougar’s use of the logo, explain how the evolution of the Commerce Clause of the Constitution of the United States affects businesses and the Cougars in particular. Also, be sure to address the categories of intellectual properties protected by the Constitution of the United States

Enter your name and the date in the comment section of each file, and save them as mp_index.html, mp_menu.html, mp_events.html, and mp_catering.html respectively.

2. Go to the mp_index.html file in your HTML editor. Within the document head, do the following:

a. Use the meta element to set the character encoding of the file to utf-8.

b. Add the following search keywords to the document: Italian, Mobile, food, and charlotte.

c. Set the title of the document to Mobile Panini.

d. Link the document to the mp_base.css and mpjayout.css style sheet files.

3. Go to the document body and insert a header element containing the following:

a. An inline image from the mp_logo.png file with the alternate text Mobile Panini. Mark the image as a hypertext link pointing to the mp_index.html file.

d. The fourth paragraph contains Mobile Panini’s phone number. Mark the phone number as a telephone link and be sure to include the international code in the URL. Note that this number is fictional, so, if you have access to a mobile browser and want to test the link, you might want to replace this number with your phone number.

e. The fifth paragraph contains Mobile Panini’s e-mail address. Mark the e-mail address as a hypertext link. Once again, note that this e-mail address is fictional, so, if you want to test this link, you will need to replace the Mobile Panini e-mail address with your e-mail address.

7. Save your changes to the file and then open the mp_index.html file in your browser. Verify that the layout and appearance of the page resemble that shown in Figure 1-45. If possible, test the telephone links and e-mail links to verify that they open the correct application.
