Lean and Operational Excellence

Overview Kaizen events or Work-Outs are one- to five-day rapid improvement events widely used in the deployment of Lean and Operational Excellence. Jack was a huge fan of Work-Outs, which were so named because the focus was on getting the unnecessary work out of the system. These events were NOT just brainstorming sessions, but were well-planned and highly structured events that had:  A well-defined process and set of expectations going in  Sufficient time and freedom from distraction so participants could focus on the issues being discussed  Participation by key stakeholders all the way from line workers to senior management  Clearly defined requirements for decision and action The second component of your Course Project is to construct a detailed agenda for such an event. The agenda must demonstrate how you will get input from key stakeholders involved with the selected process, use the correct Lean tools, and conclude the event with actionable improvement outcomes. Instructions Use your work from Part A of the Project to identify improvement opportunities in the value stream that are suitable for Kaizen events or Work-Outs. 1) List the potential Kaizen events, select the one to be deployed, and justify your selection. Then, define the Kaizen objective and scope for the selected event. 2) Develop a detailed agenda for each Kaizen event. Use a tabular format, showing: • Days and times • Session topics • Lean tools to be used • Deliverables or outputs • Rationale Day Time Session Topic/Objective Lean Tools Output/Deliverables Rationale

3) Explain your choice for number of days and sequence for session topics, and justify the Lean tools to be used and outputs from each session. Show how your Kaizen agenda supports the Kaizen objective and scope for the event. This discussion should be specific to your value stream andorganization. Submission Requirements Your work is to be submitted in Word. Total length should be 3 to 4 pages, including the actual agenda. You are free to organize your submission in whatever way you feel best presents the material and makes it easy to understand. Typically, this will mean presenting each day’s tabular agenda in granular detail (15 minute to 2-hour timeslots with details for each session), and then providing supporting pages with additional explanations. As guidance, design this as a document you would share with your team and/or your supervisor. It should be detailed enough to clearly explain how the event will be structured and why, but concise enough that it will actually get read. Note: A generic agenda for a Kaizen event or a generic Lean discussion is not acceptable.

Loss of sensory perceptions

  1. Ask a probing question.
  2.  Share an insight from having read your peer’s post.
  3.  Offer and support an opinion.
  4.  Validate an idea with your own experience.
  5.  Make a suggestion.

Writing Requirements

  • In addition to one initial post, respond to at least one peers.
  • Initial Post Length: minimum of 250 words
  • Secondary Post Length: minimum of 200 words per post
  • Using APA format, incorporate appropriate in-text citation(s) and corresponding references page for the initial post.

Put in earplugs and a thick pair of gloves as you go through your daily routine for four hours. Note the loss of sensory perceptions and how these losses influence your ability to function and to do things for yourself? How long are you able to withstand the sensory loss? Did you find any ways to compensate for it?

Examine the ethical dimensions

This week, you will be reviewing current ethics, democracy and leadership headlines, both domestic and international. You will be writing and submitting a 3 to 5 page paper on a current event where ethics, leadership and/or democracy are intertwined. It has been said that “Recognizing the existence of an ethical problem is the first step in resolving it” (Rest, J. R., 1994). Your goal will be to identify and offer analysis on a current event from the headlines, then evaluate and synthesize your thoughts on the situation, culminating in thoughtful, theory based recommendations. IDENTIFY & ANALYZE: Examine the ethical dimensions of the topic, clearly identifying the challenges and conflicts the issue presents. You should identify some of the opposing viewpoints discussed in the headlines regarding your topic. What ethical theories support various positions taken by key stakeholders? Make sure you are addressing the ethical dimensions of your topic not the legal aspects.

https://eazyweezyhomeworks.com/order/

EVALUATE: Explain why this issue has interest and concern to stakeholders and the community at-large. Why do decisions made about this topic have implications for society as a whole? What responsibility does the organization or stakeholders involved have to the community as a whole? What responsibilities does the public have regarding the issue? SYNTHESIZE: What challenges are presented to individuals and/or organizations around this topic? Why is this a topic of concern? How might others in leadership from today’s organizations be affected by this? RECOMMENDATION: Finally, what do you recommend in terms of best practices or action steps that may be taken by those involved? What have you learned from exploring this topic? What might some recommended future actions be for those facing similar circumstances?

  2. State the Author:
  3. Summarize the article in one paragraph:
  4. Post a screenshot of the article’s frequency table and/or graph.
    Example:

  5. Answer the following questions about your table or graph.
    1. What type of study is used in the article (quantitative or qualitative)?
      1. Explain how you came to that conclusion.
    2. What type of graph or table did you choose for your lab (bar graph, histogram, stem & leaf plot, etc.)?
      1. What characteristics make it this type (you should bring in material that you learned in the course)?
      2. https://eazyweezyhomeworks.com/order/
    3. Describe the data displayed in your frequency distribution or graph (consider class size, class width, total frequency, list of frequencies, class consistency, explanatory variables, response variables, shapes of distributions, etc.)
    4. Draw a conclusion about the data from the graph or frequency distribution in the context of the article.
    5. How else might this data have been displayed?
      1. Discuss the pros and cons of 2 other presentation options, such as tables or different graphical displays.
      2. Why do you think those two other presentation options (i.e., tables or different graphs) were not used in this article?
  6. Give the full APA reference of the article you are using for this lab.
  7. Be sure your name is on the Word document, save it, and then submit it under “Assignments” and “Week 3: Lab”.

Student disciplinary infractions

In recent years, we have seen an escalation in the number student disciplinary infractions resulting in suspensions or expulsions While suspensions or expulsions are warranted in some cases, there are many who feel that student learning can only occur when children are in school.  Therefore such stakeholders believe it is more helpful to focus on correcting improper behavior and allowing students their right to an education.
