The key importance is understanding the target, making sure your presentation is on key, and the audience is engaged and listening. What tricks can a speaker use in order to get the audience to pay attention?
Capturing the audience’s attention is a critical requirement for a successful speech. The speaker needs to use the listed tricks to keep the audience lively and ensure successful delivery of the intended message. Barrack Obama is one example of the best orator in the 21stcentury. He cracked many jokes on his campaign trial and always started his speeches on a high note to attract attention. Since his first presidential inauguration in 2009, he has given more than 3600 speeches, which is a lot and with that many he has learned ways to keep the audience engaged. He has used humor, personal stories and greetings. (Charles Green). From the article, How President Obama Uses Presentation Structure, he uses four steps. Step one is starting with the introduction, talking about your past, taking about the future and what you plan on changing related to the speech, and then the closing. The next step is talking about the main points of the speech. Depending on the speech, you could have more than one main talking point. The third step is the structure of the presentation and making sure it is clear and once you’re finished, the audience understands the outcome of the speech. The last step is the closing of the speech. “If you listen to the President’s speech, you’ll probably notice a secondary structure of, what is/was vs. What could be.” (Charles Green). These steps can be used with any speech, meeting, or presentation. With having a structure, this will at least help make sure that it runs smoothly while you are presenting to your target audience.
