Evaluating Purpose Statements

There is a link between understanding the purpose of one’s research and selecting the appropriate methods to investigate the questions that are derived from that purpose.

For this Discussion, you will evaluate the purpose statements in assigned journal articles in your discipline and consider the alignment of theory, problem, and purpose. You will also explain your position on the relationship between research and social change.

Alignment means that a research study possesses clear and logical connections among all of its various components. To achieve these connections, researchers must carefully craft the components of their study such that when they are viewed together, there is a coherent interrelationship.

As you read the authors’ purpose statements, consider how well the intent of the study, and its connection to the problem and theoretical framework, is presented. Also consider if the purpose statement reveals the study’s potential for engendering positive social change.

As you know, social change is a distinguishing feature of Walden University’s mission. Positive social change implies a transformation that results in positive outcomes. This can happen at many levels (e.g., individual, family systems, neighborhoods, organizations, nationally and globally); and positive social change can occur at different rates: slow and gradual or fast and radical.

With these thoughts in mind, refer to the Journal Articles document for your assigned articles for this Discussion. You will switch your journal article assignment from Week 3. If your last name starts with A through L, use Article B. If your last name starts with M through Z, use Article A. Purpose Statement Checklist Use the following criteria to evaluate an author’s purpose statement. Look for indications of the following:

• Does the statement begin with signaling words? • Does the statement identify the research approach (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed)? • Does the statement clearly state the intent of the study? • Does the statement mention the participants? • Does the statement mention the research site? • Is the statement framed in a way that is consistent with the identified problem? For this week’s blog assignment, please answer the following questions in at least 350 words minimum:

1) According to the “California Native Perspectives” video, how does the way California Missions are typically taught differ from California Native perspectives? What solution is provided? Please provide specific quotes and examples from the video to support your response.

2) Describe the story of what’s happening in the “Lying to Children about the California Missions and the Indians” article.  What does the author ultimately argue?

3) Describe the story of what’s happening in the “The San Diego Mission and Kumeyaay Revolt.” What does the author ultimately argue? How was the author’s daughter’s mission report “decolonizing”?

4) Reflect on your prior experiences learning about the California Missions. Were you taught about the California Missions previously? If so, where did you learn about them and how was the subject taught? Discuss your overall thoughts/reactions based on this week’s California Mission materials.

5) According to the Preface and Introduction in our textbook, how was the textbook for our class created? Why might this be significant?

6) Why is our textbook be written in three languages? Why might this be significant?

7) According to the Preface, what does the term “rhetorical sovereignty” mean? Also, how does this key term connect to our textbook?

To access this unit’s assigned reading for the article critique, click on Unit IV in the course navigation, and then select Amazon’s Bruising, Thrilling Workplace. In a minimum of three pages, analyze the influence tactics being utilized at Amazon. In your critique, you should address the elements listed below.

• What is the main premise, and what are the supporting points of the article?
• What specific tactics do the leaders at Amazon utilize to motivate their employees? [Unit Learning Outcome 2.1]
• How are these tactics used to promote the corporate culture at Amazon? [Unit Learning Outcome 2.1]            
• Do you think the leadership tactics employed by Amazon leaders are effective? Why, or why not? [Unit Learning Outcome 2.1]
• Provide at least two recommendations on how to improve both the leadership tactics and the corporate culture at Amazon. [Unit Learning Outcome 2.2]

You must include at least two additional scholarly sources to support your critique, one of which may be your textbook. 

Problem Statement:

A transportation company operates individual taxis and shuttles. It uses its taxis for transporting in the form of an individual or small group from one location to another. On the other hand, the shuttles have different scenario. They are used to pick up individuals from separate locations and provide them conveyance to several destinations. Any individual can call the company form anywhere. It may be a hotel, a mall, entertainment venue or any tourist company. When the company receives a call from such individuals, it tries schedule any available taxi for pickup service for a fare. If it has no free vehicles, it does not operate any form of queuing system. If the vehicles are available, then it confirms the individual for pick-up. After arrival at the pick-up place the driver notify the company that it has picked up the passenger. The driver notifies the company again at the time of dropping him off at his destination.

The company is now intending to have expansion in its volume. It thinks that this expansion will be vital to get more profit. For this purpose it needs more vehicles in addition to the existing ones. The company is willing to record details of lost fares and details of how each vehicle passes its time. These issues will help assess potential profitability.

Keeping the above mentioned problem statement, explain the following 5 steps in detail

1. You need to discover all the classes from problem statement.[1 mark for discovering the classes from the problem statement given]
2. Find out the methods associated with all the classes.[2 marks for the methods associated with the classes from the verbs of the problem statement]
3. Create the CRC cards for all the classes found from the problem statement.[1 marks for creating all scenarios of CRC ]
4. Create a Class relationship diagram using UML symbols [2 marks for creating the class relationship diagram using UML notations].
5. As a final step Design (outline) classes and interfaces that have been discovered in the initial design phase [1 mark for outlining the classes and interface.]
6. Give complete java programming implementation for at least two classes that were found in design phase. You must mention their most probable instance variables and methods. [2×1.5=3 marks]
