Policy process and public opinion | SOCW 6361 – Social Policy: Analysis and Advocacy | Walden University

Policy Process and Public Opinion

Managing public opinion and understanding the balance between its influence and your advocacy goals is a delicate matter. It is a task fraught with uncertainty because, as a policy advocate, you must navigate through the territory of politicians, bureaucrats, and lobbyists whose primary goals are to appease and please their constituents.

In this Discussion, you select a social problem that is of interest to you and identify how public opinion influences the process and political approaches involved in addressing that social problem.

To prepare: Refer to your Week 2 Small Group Discussion Forum for ideas.

Post a description of the importance of public opinion in addressing the social problem you have selected. How does public opinion influence political approaches to the problem? Explain. What policy advocacy approaches and skills can you use to address the problem with political leaders? What are the social justice implications of your approach?

Be sure to support your post with specific references to this week’s resources. If you are using additional articles, be sure to provide full APA-formatted citations for your references.

Cross-curricular project brochure for families

Cross-Curricular Project Brochure for Families

In the 21st century, scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of globalization. Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is a part of our everyday lives. Exposing students to STEM creates an engaging classroom environment and prepares students for real-world application.

In 250-500 words, create a digital flyer or brochure for the families of the students in the “Class Profile” outlining an upcoming cross-curricular, real-world project you are planning to implement in your classroom that integrates STEM.

The flyer or brochure must include:

· A title for the cross-curricular project.

· A summary of the project that clearly outlines how STEM will be utilized and how the concepts taught can be applied in a real-world setting.

· How students will be assessed.

· Materials the students will use for the project, including any that will be provided and those that could be brought from home.

· How families can support their student in the completion of the project.

The flyer/brochure should be creative, visually appealing, and well organized.

New zealand politics | Political Science homework help

Topic: One particular aspect of New Zealand politics (1500 WORDS)

Type of paper: Essay (any type)

Discipline: Political science : Political Science

Format or citation style: Chicago / Turabian

PICK ONE!!!  ( I DONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FOR 1500 WORDS SO I PUT 1100) CAN YOU STILL DO IT!!????
1.    In June 2019 a report ‘Foresight, insight and oversight: Enhancing long-term governance through better parliamentary scrutiny’ was released (you can find a copy of the report on Blackboard in the Assessments tab within the ‘Unessay or Essay’ folder). This report identifies some key concerns with New Zealand’s parliamentary processes and suggests options for reform. You should identify one reform in the report that you wish to critically evaluate. In your essay, you should explore the relative strengths and weaknesses of this reform, drawing on at least five academic peer-reviewed sources (not including the report) to make your argument. Please remember that your essay should have a thesis – in other words, you should be making a case for either adopting the reform or rejecting it (or, perhaps, revising it to address weaknesses you identify). In making your case, you should present arguments both for and against the reform.

2.    What role does Te Tiriti O Waitangi currently play in New Zealand’s constitutional arrangements? Do you think its role is sufficient or should it be strengthened? Why or why not? Justify your answer with reference to at least five academic peer-reviewed sources.

3.    Should all New Zealand constitutional law be consolidated into one Act? What are the most important elements you would expect to see in the Act, and should it be fundamental law or ordinary legislation? Remember that this is not simply a descriptive essay (i.e. don’t just explain what the constitutional arrangements should look like) – you should also give reasons for your answer, with reference to at least five academic peer-reviewed sources.

4.    ‘The role of New Zealand Prime Minister is now much more than ‘first among equals’. Do you agree or disagree? Justify your answer, with reference to at least five peer-reviewed academic sources.
5.    ‘Despite the change to MMP, the New Zealand Parliament is still failing in its role as an effective check on executive power’. Do you agree or disagree? Justify your answer, with reference to at least five academic peer-reviewed sources.
6.    Do you think that measures for public engagement with the New Zealand Parliament are sufficient? If so, why? If not, why not? Justify your answer, with reference to at least five academic peer-reviewed sources.

7.    In the 2017 New Zealand General Election, a number of small parties were not re-elected to Parliament, thus reducing the number of parties represented in the legislature. A number of political commentators have suggested that this illuminates deficiencies in the MMP electoral system. Do you agree? Justify your answer with reference to at least five academic peer-reviewed sources. In answering this question, it might help to consider the recommendations of the Electoral Commission’s review of MMP in 2012.

8.    Explain how and why the issue of customary property rights in the Foreshore and Seabed transformed the nature of Māori politics. To what extent have the effects been permanent or transitory? Justify your answer, with reference to at least five academic peer-reviewed sources.

9.    Assess the relative advantages and disadvantages of political parties in New Zealand’s political landscape. Do you think that they are an important and valuable feature of New Zealand’s democracy? Justify your answer with reference to at least five academic peer-reviewed sources. In answering this question, you may wish to consider the justifications for – and criticisms of – the Electoral (Integrity) Bill.
10.    What does it mean to talk of a constitutionally independent, expert and politically neutral public service? Do we have one in New Zealand? Use examples to illustrate your argument and justify your answer with reference to at least five academic peer-reviewed sources.

11.    Do you think that social media is largely a positive or negative influence on New Zealand’s democracy? Why or why not? You should draw on at least five academic peer-reviewed sources to support your answer.
12.    Is New Zealand’s Parliament sufficiently ‘representative’? In your essay explain and justify what you mean by representation before assessing whether or not it is ‘sufficiently’ representative. You should reference at least five academic peer-reviewed sources to support your answer.

Hi,

I am delighted to announce that Emily Johns will be starting at Appliance Warehouse today! Emily will be undertaking the role of Service Manager and will be the force behind creating our new service department.

Emily comes to us with 25 years of experience in the service repair industry. Emily began her career as a service technician and quickly moved through the ranks to the first female service manager in ABC Appliance Service Company’s history. After 17 years, she went to work for Acme Appliance Repair. Over the last 8 years, the revenue for Acme increased by 200% after being stagnant for the preceding 5 years.

Hi John,

Our new service manager starts work today! This is great news! As our business starts to expand, we must move our software project along.

You will need to talk to some of our employees to better understand the functionality and requirements of the proposed system. This is important because they are the key stakeholders of the system. You should make a list of employees who you will want to interview. I suggest that you learn the process for scheduling an appliance repair appointment and how the parts are obtained for those repair visits. Also, it is important to understand what reports that managers are hoping to extract from the new system. I find it is helpful to write down questions prior to your meetings so that you don’t forget the topics that you want to cover.

My suggestion is to write at least 10 questions per person prior to the meeting. Make sure that you use open-ended questions (at least 7 questions) to get the employees talking. You should also use closed response and range of response questions. I find that each type of question can provide valuable information and are quite useful in requirements gathering.

Please send the questions to me for at least two of the interviews. I’d like to see what you are planning to discuss.

Thanks.

Hi John,

We have previously used both the Joint Application Development technique and the Rapid Application Development technique. However, many colleagues of mine swear by the agile technique. Each of these methodologies offers up some great advantages. Since we need to get this project done as quickly as possible, which of these techniques do you think we should use? I want to ensure that we’ve created software that will handle all of our users’ requirements and that it is a robust system.

Thanks.

Carlie

Hi John,

I almost forgot to mention that you’ll want to also send a questionnaire out to the users of the proposed system. Did you want to send the questionnaire to all the users or do you want to do a stratified or systematic sample?

Please send your draft questionnaire to me before you distribute it.
