Eng 130: Essay for ENG 130: Descriptive Writing 

This assignment focuses on your ability to: research academic and reliable sources; translate the information from those sources into a cohesive piece of writing; respond creatively to artwork. 

The purpose of completing this assignment is: as a student and a career professional, and individual, you will often be required to research information that will further a school assignment, a work-related project, or a personal endeavor. Also, you might be asked to translate research into a written or oral presentation that you can share with coworkers and peers in a way that will describe, persuade, or evoke emotion. This assignment has all of these skills!

Prompt (What are you writing about?):  

Find a famous work of art. Write a researched history of the artist and the artwork and create a Descriptive Poem that uses imagery to describe the artwork and your reaction to it. 

Instructions (how to get it done):  Cut and paste a picture of a famous work of art.   Research and write a history of the piece of art and the artist.  Note: Be very careful about plagiarism. The purpose of this section is for you to research the work of art and the artist, put the summary of history and life into your own words, and then provide in text citations for the researched information.   Using the poems in the “Poetry Sampler” section as examples, create a descriptive poem that uses imagery words to provide a visual description of your chosen artwork and your reaction to it.  Note: Your poem needs to be at least 14 lines. Remember in writing poetry, that not all poems need to rhyme. The important skill here is to use imagery descriptions to describe the artwork and the author.  

Requirements:  Length and format: 2-3 pages (not including the pasted picture).   The title page and reference page are also required, but they should not be factored into the 2-3 page length of the essay.   Research section should be double spaced, written in Times New Roman, in 12 point font and with 1 inch margins. Essay should conform to APA formatting and citation style. Can use creative style in poetry section.  Please use the book sources and any outside sources you need to create a properlyformatted APA reference page. 

Objective:  To take oceanographic topics learned in this course and apply them to current events that are happening. 

Instructions: Find a current article (2018 to present) from a reputable news source, including newspapers and magazines. The article must come from a reputable source (no blogs).  Read the article and relate it to one or more of the topics that we have learned in this class.

You will turn in a one-page maximum document discussing your chosen article.  The first half of the report will summarize your current event.  The second half will describe how one or more topics from oceanography is important to understanding the current event.

Choose a manager (who supervises multiple employees) with whom you can sit face-to-face for 30 minutes to ask some managerial questions.

Required interview questions:

1. How many employees do you supervise directly? What do they do? (generally, e.g. clerks, technicians, auditors, managers, etc.) What kind of information about them do you keep track of (e.g. their experience, skills, etc.) that is necessary to manage them effectively?
2. Do you manage employees individually or as a whole group?
3. Do you keep track of or measure any workplace attitudes (e.g. job satisfaction, employee engagement, etc.)? Why? How do you measure them?
4. How do you motivate your employees?
5. Can you give me some tips on how to be an effective leader?
6. How do you resolve conflicts in the workplace? Do you need to play politics sometimes?

You can ask additional or follow-up questions as well. After the interview, organize the answers and prepare 4 to5 pages, essay-type report that consists of the following titles/sections:

Under the header “analysis and recommendations,” critically analyze each of the manager’s answers BASED ON CLASS TOPICS/MODELS/THEORIES WE COVERED.

Make recommendations and suggest improvements for the manager.

Under “lessons learned,” report the lessons you learned in this interview and how you can use this new understanding in your own career. Give specific examples of how you will do this in your career (at school, work, sports club, etc.).

The topic as below:

While Saudi Arabia seeks to diversify its economy, the Saudi economy  is dominated by the petroleum sector. In addition, the Saudi Arabian  Riyal (SAR) is pegged to the U.S. Dollar.

In a critical essay, indicate the main considerations Saudi  Arabia faces from a currency perspective (e.g., currency values,  interest rates, inflation, and trade issues) that ensue given two  scenarios:

• The first scenario is a dramatically declining world oil price.
• The second scenario is a dramatically increasing world oil price.

Analyze the results you expect from each scenario.

Directions:

– Write an essay that includes an introduction paragraph, the essay’s    body, and a conclusion paragraph to address the assignment’s guide    questions. Do not address the questions using a question-and-answer   format.
