HRM Employee Engagement Recommendation

Resources

  • HRM Employee Engagement Recommendation Scoring Guide.
  • Employee Engagement at Modern Appliances, Inc.
  • APA Style and Format.
  • Writing Feedback Tool.

This assessment measures your mastery of the course competencies:

  • Analyze HRM programs and other related systems within an organization that supports employee engagement and commitment.
  • Examine evidence-based HRM best practices among organizations that demonstrate an employee-centered culture.
  • Analyze HRM’s role in adhering to laws and regulations that ensure employee rights and manage risk.
  • Analyze methods of supporting employee-centered culture through organizational design and workforce diversity.

Draw upon the “Modern Appliances” case study, the two previous assignments, the course discussions, your course readings, and any additional research you require to complete the project for this course.

In the “Modern Appliances” case study that we are considering, the immediate role of HRM consisted of advice and counsel given by the vice president of human resources as a member of the management team. James Bradshaw, Modern Appliances CEO, however, understood that changing the entire culture of a company was a long-term process. Although HRM activities are not made explicit in the case study, a number of clues indicate how HR might be called upon to actively support this new model of employee engagement. Imagine that you are the HR vice president at Modern Appliances and that James Bradshaw has asked you to submit a recommendation for how HR best practices and programs will support this new initiative.

For this project:

Prepare a detailed recommendation for James Bradshaw, CEO of Modern Appliances, outlining the ways in which HR will provide support to the employee engagement efforts at Modern. Your recommendation should:

  • Provide a brief analysis of the cultural shift that the company is making.
  • Identify and evaluate the systems and structures of the organization that will require support.
  • Evaluate the risks to the organization if support is not provided.
  • Identify any challenges or resistance that the organization will face in providing this support.
  • Include a prioritized recommendation of the programs and policies required to support the cultural shift to increased employee engagement. For each recommended program or policy, describe:
    • How it will address a specific need in the organization related to the cultural shift.
    • How it will mitigate a particular risk to the organization related to the cultural shift.
    • The plan for dealing with any resistance the program or policy encounters.
  • Evaluate how your recommendations align to HRM industry best practices with regard to employee engagement.

Examine the percentages of employee representation across demographic categories for Tanglewood and the available labor market for Table 1.3

The questions to be used in our Casework are located at the end of each Case.  Understand that there are many possible answers to the questions but there are some basic functions used throughout. Enjoy the process of learning the material and then applying your own creativity toward developing what you feel is the best solution.

Specific Assignment Details  For the store manager group, you will analyze the information and prepare a report showing the results of the Markov analysis and the EEO investigation. The Director asked you to address these questions in your written report:  1. Currently the organization expects that their forecast for labor requirements is essentially constant from the previous year. Based on this assumption complete the five stages of the planning process: a. Currently the organization expects that their forecast for labor requirements is essentially constant from the previous year. This means the forecast for next year will be taken as given. b. Fill in the empty cells in the forecast of labor availabilities in Table 1.1.  c. Conduct an environmental scan. Based on the environmental data, what factors in the environment suggest Tanglewood might have difficulty filling their vacancies in the future? d. Compute year end totals for each job in Table 1.1 and do a gap analysis to determine where shortages will occur in the next year. e. Develop a preliminary statement of the action plan for hiring for Washington next year. This should be an overview of the number of individuals needed to meet projected staffing levels for various positions that can be given to store managers. Make sure that your recommendations take the strategic staffing levels issues from the introductory case into account.  2. Examine the percentages of employee representation across demographic categories for Tanglewood and the available labor market for Table 1.3. Are there any particular classes or jobs where the representation within Tanglewood appears to be out of line with the available workforce? What does the pattern suggest to you?  3. Based on your analysis and the affirmative action plan, do you think the company should engage in a specific strategy to change their recruiting and promotion practices? Do you think it is realistic for the company to try to meet their affirmative action goals in this process in a single year? What are the pros and cons of using internal promotions vs. external hiring to rectify the problems with gender and ethnicity representation in supervisory positions?  4. In addition to the specific targets for employee representation for the Spokane flagship location, Tanglewood wants to use this opportunity to establish estimates for the entire chain’s staffing policy regarding demographic representation of the workforce. How do you think individual stores can respond to overarching organizational objectives? Prepare a memo to be disseminated to the individual stores that gives a sense of your targets for the organization as a whole, and also gives the stores advice on how they can assist in narrowing any representation gaps you find through their recruiting, hiring, and promotion practices.

Applying Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

I have attached the papers. Please paraphrase.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, focuses on patterns of thinking, with decreased attention on patterns of behavior and emotional components of relationships. Researchers have given an enormous amount of attention to CBT and its application to a variety of individual mental health concerns, but they also have appropriated it for working with couples and families. Many systems purists argue that CBT is an individual-oriented theory that lacks systemic concepts necessary to conceptualize family or couple issues. In the end, you will have to make the decision as couples and family helping professional as to whether CBT can address the relational demands of practitioner work with couples and families.

  • Define the problem.
  • Formulate a theory-based treatment plan including short- and long-term goals for the couples and/or families.
  • Describe two theory-based interventions you would use and justify your selection.
  • Explain one anticipated outcome of each.

Difference Between Epistemological Paradigm and Theory

Whether working with clients, families, communities, organizations, or advocacy on government levels, the knowledge underlying the work social workers do—every assessment, intervention, or policy—is grounded on epistemological underpinnings. Furthermore, the work social workers do is also supported by a theoretical framework. Think of the epistemological paradigm as answering the question “How will the social work topic or problem be studied?” Meanwhile, think of theory as a structure to hold up a research study or social work practice intervention. When a study or social work intervention is supported by theory, it offers the chance for the researcher or social worker to connect the study or intervention to a larger knowledge base.

You might be wondering how practitioners and researchers know which theory to use. Lor, Backonja, and Lauver (2017) described three criteria for selecting a theory. First, think about the topic or problem and which theories contain the concepts and propositions that capture the nature of that topic or problem. Second, identify all potential theories that may be viable to provide the structure of the study, and explain the nature of the problem. Finally, ask which theory is the clearest and has the most empirical support for the topic or problem. Lor et al. stressed that the manner of determining the most appropriate theory is an iterative process. When you start work on your doctoral capstone, compare the different theories. Then, visit the library to find articles that describe interventions, policies, and research studies that have used similar theories.

In this Discussion, you explore the roles of paradigm and theory in social work research and practice. Focus on the researcher interviews and how theory and epistemological paradigm influenced their studies.

Assignment 3 Part 2: Business Plan – Draft

Due Week 8 and worth 30 points

This assignment consists of two (2) sections: a draft of your business plan and an income statement containing your business plan financials (i.e. Week 7 Discussion “The Financials”). Note: You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment.

You must intend to raise money for your startup company. You can start with money from friends and family but at some point you will need funds from outside investors, either angels or venture capitalists, depending on how much money you project you will need to raise. Another possible angle is to develop money through crowdfunding, assuming your product meets the demand of such audiences.

Before you can raise money, you must develop a business plan that convinces an investor that your company will succeed.

Section 1: Business Plan (MS Word or equivalent)

  1. Create an Ethics & Social Responsibility Plan.

Note: The Ethics & Social Responsibility plan should account for approximately three to five (3-5) pages of the Business Plan Draft.

    1. Describe the ways in which your company is committed to being a good corporate citizen.
      • Hints: Consider the following areas:
        • Creating jobs
        • Following the laws of every jurisdiction in which your company operates
        • Fair and honest treatment of employees
        • Non-discrimination of employees and increasing diversity of your work force
      • Hints: If your company is designed as a social venture—in which you have a primary purpose of achieving a social or environmental goal—describe what that goal is and what aspects of your company are designed to reach that goal. Provide a rationale for why you have or why you have not chosen this to be a social venture.
    1. Discuss how your company’s activities will affect the environment and identify the steps you will take to mitigate any negative impacts.
      • Hints: As a beverage company, consider such issues as your choice of packaging, disposal of bottles / packages by consumers, and your use of resources, such as water in areas where water may be scarce.
    1. Determine any health issues / claims related to the product you are making, whether negative or positive. Suggest the strategy your company will use to mitigate any negative issues, and to ensure any positive claims are true.
    1. Many beverage products have negative health impacts on certain segments of a population (e.g., children, pregnant mothers, etc.). Suggest your company’s plan, through advertising, distribution, and / or other methods, to target and reach only appropriate market segments.
  1. Format your assignment according to these formatting requirements:
    1. Cite the resources you have used to complete the exercise. Note: There is no minimum requirement for the number of resources used in the exercise.
    2. Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
    3. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

You are the director of compensation for a midsized organization. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that justifies the implementation of a new compensation strategy that will support the motivational needs of knowledge workers and reinforce the real-time performance appraisal system that the organization has embraced. While your goal is to retain, motivate, and grow the current workforce of multi-generational knowledge workers, you must also justify to your senior management that this compensation strategy is competitive in the marketplace.

Your presentation should describe a compensation program for knowledge workers. The title of the knowledge worker’s position is entirely up to you (e.g., sales executive I, systems engineer III, etc.). You may use various sources (including the lesson materials), but you must use at least one additional resource from the CSU Online Library. Include a reference slide, and cite any sources used in proper APA format. Your presentation should be a minimum of 12 slides in length—not counting the title and reference slides. You may also use the slide notes function to explain slide contents as necessary, but this is not required.

Be sure to address the questions below in your presentation.

What is the compensation strategy being proposed? Did employees provide input? Who else provided input? What incentives are included in the plan? How will it motivate the employees? How will employees determine fairness of the pay structure?

Why do you believe the employees will be satisfied with this plan? Justify the compensation strategy that supports the motivational needs of knowledge workers. What is your communication plan for rolling out the new program?

Assignment

There are several standardized training events in large organizations that are required annually or biannually. One of these is often sexual harassment. For this assignment, write a training plan for all employees in your firm to educate and develop their awareness of sexual harassment and understanding of legal and organizational policies. Be sure to include training aspects of planning, design, implementation, and evaluation.

This plan should be in narrative form with a minimum requirement of 500 words. Discuss the following guidelines to complete your plan.

·        Planning: Should all employees be trained at once? If not, who should be trained first? What are the anticipated outcomes or terminal learning objectives of the training?

·        Design: In what format should the training be given, and why? What modalities will be used for employees on multiple shifts or in multiple locations? What are the core elements of the training that will align with the learning objectives?

·        Implementation: Who will lead the training, and how will it be implemented? Will you be training for knowledge or behavior change? How will you conduct the actual training to account for knowledge and/or behavioral change?

·        Evaluation: How will you know if the training was successful? What measures will you use to know if employees 1) learned from the training, 2) behaved differently after the training, and 3) the training has a bottom line impact to the firm?

Assignment

Safety Policies

Recall your chosen firm and industry you have been using throughout the course. For this assignment, you will identify the top three major safety and health issues in your firm, and write a policy on each, consistent with Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards. There is a minimum requirement of 300 words for each of the three job policies.

Each of the five domains of OSHA must be considered when writing these three policies:

1. Hazard communication: How will you notify people of potentially dangerous or unhealthy work conditions?

2. Blood-borne pathogens: How will you protect employees from blood-borne pathogens such as AIDS?

3. Personal protective equipment (PPE): What equipment or tools will your employees in this job require to work safely?

4. Cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs): How will you prevent CTDs that come from repetitive movement (e.g., carpel tunnel syndrome)?

5. Work assignments: How will you handle potentially dangerous work assignments, especially to protect unborn babies?

NOTE: This is a three-part assignment. All three of the policies (300 words each) you write should go on one document. This one document is what will be uploaded to Blackboard.

Any sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations in APA format.

Assignment

Compensation Purpose and Strategy Document

The purpose of this assignment is to choose a compensation philosophy that is appropriate for your chosen firm and articulate a rationale for this selection.

There are two aspects to this assignment. First, describe the risks and benefits with leading, meeting, and lagging the market in overall compensation and benefits. Next, choose the appropriate strategy (lead, meet, or lag) for your firm, and provide rationale about why this is appropriate.

There is a minimum requirement of 500 words for the compensation purpose and strategy document.

Consider some of the following factors in your assignment:

1. Payroll expenses are usually the highest expense at most firms. If you lead the market, this expense can be taxing.

2. If you are pursuing top talent in human capital rich industries (e.g., software engineering), lagging the market may keep you from competing for market share against your competitors.

3. If you meet the market, paying average will generally not attract top talent, and in addition, you will not have the labor-cost savings of a lag-the-market strategy.

Any sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations in APA format.

Read the Week Five Discussion forum prompt to familiarize yourself with the expectations and requirements.

The following assignment is for Human Resources Specialists only.

At professional conferences, blocks of time may be set aside for what are termed “poster sessions.” A hotel ballroom or large open area will be ringed with individuals who use displays such as posters or electronic presentations displayed via projectors. These sessions provide an opportunity to share one’s research, in an intimate setting, with a small group gathered around who share a similar interest. The seminar format of this course is very similar to this academic exchange. During one 2–week unit of study, you will be appointed as a Presenter. If you are one of the Presenters for this 2–week unit, you are to prepare an academic presentation much like a poster session.

As the Presenter for this 2–week unit, based on your own prior knowledge and current research, you will present a 7– to 10–slide PowerPoint presentation  relating to the weekly topic “Selecting for the Future.”

Please remember to use the audio technology within PowerPoint to make your presentation. (Please use female audio voice technology).

Please format references according to APA guidelines.

In anticipation for the Week Five Discussion forum, which requires an in-person observation, please ensure you complete the following:

  • Read the Week Five Discussion forum prompt to familiarize yourself with the expectations and requirements.
  • Complete the Acknowledgement Form and submit it to Waypoint by the due date.
