What does the learning in your ideal environment look like? What kinds of assignments exist in your ideal learning environment?

Read the following excerpt:

“He emerged into the strangest-looking classroom he had ever seen. In fact, it didn’t look like a classroom at all, more like a cross between someone’s attic and an old-fashioned tea shop. At least twenty small, circular tables were crammed inside it, all surrounded by chintz armchairs and fat little poufs. Everything was lit with a dim, crimson light; the curtains at the windows were all closed, and the many lamps were draped with red scarves. It was stiflingly warm, and the fire that was burning under the crowded mantelpiece was giving off a heavy, sickly sort of perfume as it heated a large copper kettle. The shelves running around the circular walls were crammed with dusty-looking feathers, stubs of candles, many packs of tattered playing cards, countless silvery crystal balls, and a huge array of teacups.” (J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (New York: Scholastic Press, 1999), p. 101.)

Above is the description of a fictitious classroom from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. In the passage, Rowling describes a classroom which is full of possibilities, personalization, and purpose. She highlights key elements of that classrooms culture – the items that line the shelves, the color and temperature of the room, and the size of the tables – and focuses the reader on this new way that learning is about the take place.

We all have a different perspective on what makes a great place to learn. There is no such thing as a perfect classroom but there is great value in thinking about, and sharing, your perspective on what your ideal learning environment would be like.

How do you think this piece would be described by different types of listeners — casual, referential, critical, or perceptive?

Now that you are familiar with how different listeners approach a piece of music, let’s combine your analytic skills with putting yourself in the shoes of different listeners by listening to a new music selection titled “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46 by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg.

Peer Gynt is the incidental music to Henrik Ibsen’s 1867 play of the same name loosely based on a Norwegian fairy tale. It tells the story of Peer Gynt, a Norwegian peasant anti-hero, who is constantly drunk, getting in and out of trouble, and experiencing real and imaginary adventures, including the one that is portrayed in the piece to which you will be listening.

“In the Hall of the Mountain King” from the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46 (2:51)

There is only one music idea in the piece. Here it is played by the violins (pizzicato). Familiarize yourself with the entire piece by listening to it at least three times from beginning to end. How do you think this piece would be described by different types of listeners — casual, referential, critical, or perceptive?

EXAMPLE OF THE START OF AN ENTRY THAT IS NOT USING CABLE:

I was watching Ozark on Netflix this weekend. I noticed that the two women in the show were both drinking “Coors Light” and the men were drinking “Show Freak” red wine. I found this intriguing, as this specific episode was about the two lead female characters asserting their dominance as the stronger figures in their illegal business trade. What was intriguing was that the show cast reversed gender assignments regarding the drinks. Specifically, the women were drinking a cold beer while the two men were sipping on red wine. According to research by Lyons, Dalton & Hoy (2006) this is the opposite of what how society would normally depict these gendered character roles. This could be interpreted as……..

Strategic Value of Employee Benefits Programs

THIS ASSIGNMENT IS FOR AN ORIGINAL, UNUSED, NOT PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED PAPER WITH LESS THAN 10% PLAGARISM AS IT GOES THRU A CHECKER. PREVIOUS PAPERS ARE ATTACHED.

To attract, motivate, and retain good workers, companies need to define what an employee wants from the employment relationship. One way to define employee needs is to consider “total rewards,” which are everything an employee perceives to be of value resulting from working for the company. Benefits are a core element of total rewards and the ever-growing package of offerings have evolved. You must now work with the company to define precisely where the various programs will be categorized. Write a six to seven (6-7) page paper in which you:

·         Identify and discuss at least three (3) important variables that almost always should be considered by organizations when providing employee benefits programs. Be sure the response is specific and relevant.

·         Compare and contrast income protection programs and pay for time not worked programs, both of which are usual elements of benefits programs. How are the programs similar? Are they mandatory?

·         Research and discuss at least four to five (4-5) of what may be referred as “Other Benefits” that you could recommend to the management team as necessary elements for the benefits package. HINT: Flextime and product/service discounts are good examples.

·         Develop an employee benefits package for any exempt or non-exempt position level of your choosing, making sure you support the selection of your program elements. NOTE: The preferred method for presenting your benefits package information is using a table or exhibit, but either approach is not mandatory. HINT: http://www.isacs.org/uploads/file/Monographs/Business%20Operations/Benefits%20Plan.pdf http://www.usbankhr.com/hr/docs/benefits/benefits-at-a-glance-next.pdf

·         Format your assignment according to these formatting requirements:

a.

a.        Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

Art Gallery: Principles of Design

For Unit IV of your art gallery presentation, you will be adding descriptions of the principles of design you observe in the artworks you placed in your art gallery. The purpose of this unit assignment is to demonstrate that you can apply what you learned about design principles to your gallery artworks.

  • Begin by reviewing your Unit III feedback and making any necessary revisions to the descriptions of the visual elements.
  • Next, research the design elements in Chapter 4 of your textbook.
  • Place the Design Principles slide directly after the Visual Elements slide describing each artwork.
  • Provide a detailed description of the design principles in each artwork, using full and complete sentences. For design principles, make sure you describe how the artist used most or all of the ones in Chapter 4: unity and variety, balance, emphasis, directional forces, contrast, repetition and rhythm, and scale and proportion. Questions to consider are included below:
    • Unity: what elements work together to make a harmonious whole?
    • Variety: What creates diversity?
    • Balance: Is it symmetrical or asymmetrical?
    • Emphasis: What is the focal point?
    • Directional forces: What are the paths for the eye to follow?
    • Contrast: Where do you see contrasting elements in the artwork?
    • Repetition and rhythm: Is an element repeated?
    • Scale and proportion: Are the objects in proportion to each other?
  • You do not need to cite a source if it is your observation. Only cite a source if you are using information that someone published. Be sure to use APA formatting for all outside sources.
  • Please submit your full presentation thus far, which should include the previous updated segments and the segment for this unit.
  • This segment must include a minimum of five PowerPoint slides.

***Also, please write about each principle in a full and complete sentence.

Unity/Variety – Is everything is the artwork similar or unified? Or is there diversity?Balance – Is there balance?  Does one side appear visually heavier than the other?Emphasis and Subordination – What is the focus of the artwork?  Why do you feel that is?Directional Forces – How does your eye move around the work of art? Describe the path your eye takes through the work as you view it.Contrast – Is there a juxtaposition of opposites? This can be a contrast of color, or texture, or line, etc. Repetition and Rhythm – Is there a pattern or movement in the artwork?Scale and Proportion – Does the size or proportion change how you think about the artwork?
