Respond to at least two colleagues who wrote about two criteria different from yours. In your response, suggest an additional example to support each of your colleague’s criteria.

The term competence connotes a level of preparedness for addressing issues and maintaining a high standard of practice with clients. Competent social workers have completed adequate preparations for licensure, and they are appropriately credentialed. They adhere to ethical practices by maintaining professional boundaries and honoring commitments to confidentiality. How might you demonstrate your competence as a social worker? How can you recognize competence in other social workers?

For this Discussion, review this week’s Readings. Think about elements in the articles that denote competence.

http://www.socialworkpolicy.org/research/evidence-based-practice-2.html

By Day 4

Post a description of at least two criteria that define competence in social work. Give an example of each criterion of competence and justify your selection.

By Day 6

Respond to at least two colleagues who wrote about two criteria different from yours. In your response, suggest an additional example to support each of your colleague’s criteria.

Psychologists like B. F. Skinner have studied how we can  use operant conditioning to change the  behavior of people and animals.  Drawing on your personal experience, choose a person or animal whose  behavior you want to change. (You may select your own behavior for this  question if you wish.) How could you use operant conditioning to change  the behavior of this person or animal?

In a multi-paragraph  essay, describe your plan to change this behavior. Be sure to mention  what type of reinforcer and reinforcement schedule you would use and  explain why you made those particular choices. Include information from  class materials, readings, and research on operant conditioning to  support your discussion.

Finally, describe two interventions you might use to influence moral development in the individual(s) who participated in the event. Justify your response with references to this week’s Learning Resources and the current literature. Be specific.

Moral Development

Consider what you think might be the date of origin of the following quote:

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”

When might someone have made this observation: this year, this decade, or twenty years ago? Would you be surprised to learn that this quote is attributed to Socrates, who wrote in the 5th century, BC?

Members of each passing generation can often be heard uttering their disapproval of “today’s youth.” People in aging generations sometimes blame parents, the media, and society as a whole for younger generations’ declining morals and manners. They reminisce about the way things were and make blanket statements about going back to the ways things should be. While the truth to their claims can be left up to debate, there is one common element that spans all generations of adolescents: the impact of current events.

In the 1940s, the events of World War II sparked in United States citizens patriotic behaviors such as enlisting in the military. The aftermath of the war contributed to many youth in the succeeding generation seeking peace and love to overcome the plagues of war. Today, news reports are peppered with incidents of adolescents assaulting one another and sharing their conquests with the masses via social media. Bullying and the influence of social media are two examples of current issues impacting a generation. The 2011 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that 1 in 6 United States high school students admitted to being bullied through indirect communication such as e-mail or text messages (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). Statistics such as these leave many to wonder whether bullying is becoming more extreme or if social media is simply beginning to highlight its severity.

As a counselor, it is important that you consider the current events that impact the children and adolescents with whom you might work.

For this Discussion, research the Walden library and/or contemporary news sources to find an article that presents a particular event highlighting immoral behavior of children or adolescents. Consider the factors that might have contributed to the behavior. Some of the following terms might be helpful to use in your research: bullying, technology, social media, consumerism, or religion.

Post  a description of the event and the immoral behavior described in the article you selected. Then, explain factors that may have contributed to the immoral behaviors presented in the article. Finally, describe two interventions you might use to influence moral development in the individual(s) who participated in the event. Justify your response with references to this week’s Learning Resources and the current literature. Be specific.

Respond  to at least two of your colleagues using one or more of the following approaches:

Offer and support an additional factor that might have contributed to the immoral behaviors discussed by a colleague.

Expand on a colleague’s posting to describe how the described immoral behaviors might impact the future of the participating individual(s) and others.

Suggest additional interventions as appropriate. Support your suggestions with references to this week’s Learning Resources and the current literature.

Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the content of each post. Be sure that you cite scientific evidence to support your views.

Before completing this discussion, be sure to review Chapter 13 in your text, the “Suicide Prevention (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.” article, and the Final Chapter video. After examining the research in human development presented in your required resources, complete the following discussion:   The number of deaths officially designated as suicide among young adults (15-24 years of age) has increased considerably (see the “Suicide Prevention (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.” article).  Interpret the available statistics and describe the influences of family, culture, and environment as it pertains to the data.  Be sure to distinguish between suicide attempts and deaths attributed to suicide, and to report gender differences. Your initial post should address the following: •Discuss whether the available statistics accurately represent the evidence (e.g., can these statistics underreport the actual rates?).   •Describe at least two potential causes of suicide among teens according to the scientific literature. •Examine at least one feasible solution to the issue of suicide and discuss its effectiveness.      Your initial post must be at least 300 words and use a minimum of one scholarly source located in the Ashford University Library or on Google Scholar that is cited and referenced according to APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center to support your argument.

Guided Response: Review several of your classmates’ posts. Provide a substantive response to at least two of your peers in a minimum of 200 words. Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the content of each post. Be sure that you cite scientific evidence to support your views.

Choose a topic of interest to you in psychology that is relevant to your current or future career, and search the databases in the Ashford University Library for a published peer-reviewed literature review on the topic.

 Week 1 – Assignment 2

Topic for the Final Research Proposal

For this assignment you will apply the first step of the scientific method by identifying a topic and explaining its importance in the field of psychology. Choose a topic of interest to you in psychology that is relevant to your current or future career, and search the databases in the Ashford University Library for a published peer-reviewed literature review on the topic. Evaluate the literature review and describe whether or not it provides multiple perspectives and or results on the topic, or if the author is including only those studies that prove his or her original hypothesis. Using the literature review as a reference, compare the characteristics of the different research methods that have been used to study this topic. Summarize what is known about the topic based on the evidence presented in the literature review.

The paper

  • Must be two to three double-spaced pages in length (not including title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must use at least one peer-reviewed source.
  • Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
  • Must include a separate reference page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Review the psychology perspectives described on the Simply Psychology website and consider which perspectives interest you the most.

Each psychological perspective offers a unique vantage point or lens through which to view human behavior. Consider violent behavior and, in particular, school shootings as an example. After a school shooting occurred, you probably recall hearing arguments from survivors, students, politicians, news anchors, bloggers, co-workers, family, and friends about why the shooter opened fire in a school. Whether you were conscious of it or not, each of these arguments could be attributed to a psychological perspective. For example, you may have heard people say that the incident occurred because the shooter played too many violent video games (behaviorist perspective), was severely abused as a child (psychodynamic perspective), or had a chemical imbalance (biological perspective). You may have also heard people say that the shooter lacked basic human needs (e.g., stable home and social support; humanistic perspective) or perceived his or her treatment by others as being unfair or unjust (cognitive perspective). Based on this example, you can see how psychological perspectives support and offer explanations for specific behaviors. You also can probably see the degree to which one’s biology (i.e., nature) and environment (i.e., nurture) are evident in each psychological perspective.

In this discussion, you will consider how psychological perspectives and one’s biology and environment explain and contribute to a variety of behaviors.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the psychology perspectives described on the Simply Psychology website and consider which perspectives interest you the most.
  • Review the remaining Learning Resources on nature and nurture. Think about how nature and nurture relate to human behavior and to the different psychological perspectives.
  • As you view this week’s media, consider the interplay between biology, experience, and behavior.

By Day 4

Post a response to the following:

Briefly describe the psychological perspective that interests you the most, and why. Then, explain how nature and nurture each contribute to behavior according to the psychological perspective you chose. Finally, evaluate how the interplay between biology and environment can impact behavior.

Note: Support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and any additional sources you identify using both in-text citations and references. It is strongly recommended that you include proper APA format and citations.

2.  What are five of the current inequities in the United States health care market that should be addressed? Document each inequity using credible, peer-reviewed sources.

Assignment Overview: One of the leading continuous quality indicators that U.S. health care managers struggle with is population-wide health equity monitoring and improvement. This indicator seems to unfortunately remain isolated from the “mainstream” process of continuous quality improvement. Because of this, health care managers remain relatively uninformed about
the health equity impacts of organizational decisions, despite the ease of data gathering and assessment brought about by the advent of electronic health records.

Please read the following article, then answer the Case Assignment questions.

1.  How can the monitoring process suggested in the article help in revising the processes used inside the United States? It’s working in England—so could it work in the United States? Why or why not? Justify your answer using credible, peer-reviewed sources.

2.  What are five of the current inequities in the United States health care market that should be addressed? Document each inequity using credible, peer-reviewed sources.

3.  How can each of these inequities be best resolved to the satisfaction of all stakeholders? Explain your ideas for resolving the five inequities to your stakeholders in a few concise paragraphs.

Consider how to develop compelling vision statements for organizational change and the characteristics of well-written vision statements.

*PLEASE USE THE ARTICLE ATTACHED*

In Week 5, you examined the myriad reasons employees resist change, which can include fear of the unknown, perceived lack of control or support, and poor communication on behalf of leaders about why the change is necessary. In this Discussion, you will explore a related topic: lack of employee buy-in for change. Employee resistance to change often leads to lack of buy-in for the change, particularly if employees strongly believe in the status quo or fail to see the benefits of the change to themselves and others. Lack of buy-in to the change may ultimately stall or sabotage the change if employees decide not to take action to support and implement it. Therefore, addressing a lack of buy-in to change goes beyond calming employee fears to actively “selling” the change. One of the best ways to “sell” a change is to create a compelling vision.

In this Discussion, you will explore the importance of gaining employee buy-in and creating a compelling vision to successfully manage organizational change.

To Prepare

  • Review the resources on change management models. Consider the role of leaders in each stage of the change process.
  • Read the article “Defining “Buy-In: Introducing the Buy-In Continuum.” Focus on the descriptions of each stage in the buy-in continuum and leadership strategies for helping employees move to higher stages in the continuum (ATTACHED).
  • Consider how to develop compelling vision statements for organizational change and the characteristics of well-written vision statements.
  • Review the article “Positive Leadership in Action: Applications of POS by Jim Mallozzi, CEO, Prudential Real Estate and Relocation.” Consider positive leadership practices for successfully managing change (ATTACHED).
  • Identify an organizational change you experienced in your current or former workplace that was unsuccessful. Reflect on the employee attitudes and behaviors that led you to believe they did not buy in to the change. Create a 3- to 4-sentence vision statement that you think would have motivated the employees to buy in to the change.

By Day 3

Post a response to the following:

Explain the role of leadership in the change management process. Then, briefly describe an organizational change you experienced in your current or former workplace that was unsuccessful due to a lack of employee buy-in. Describe the employee attitudes and/or behaviors that led you to believe that they did not buy in to the change. Finally, create a 3- to 4-sentence vision statement that you think could have motivated employees to buy into the organizational change.

Evaluate the influence of the cultural background of children with high-incidence exceptionalities (such as learning disabilities) on how they are approached by the following:

The importance of families cannot be overstated in dealing with children with exceptionalities. Despite the high incidence of exceptionalities such as learning disabilities and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, families often feel isolated and experience significant stress.

Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research the roles of families and the positive and negative impact children with disabilities can have on the family.

Be sure to review the following article from the readings for this module:

Based on your research, address the following:

  • Provide a brief overview of the main points of the article.
  • Describe at least two things you learned from the article.
  • Describe the potential challenges and benefits for families who have one or more children with exceptionalities.
  • Evaluate the influence of the cultural background of children with high-incidence exceptionalities (such as learning disabilities) on how they are approached by the following:
    • Their families
    • Their schools
    • Their communities
  • Describe the ecocultural perspective. Based on your readings, describe supports or interventions you would recommend from this perspective. Be sure to address families, schools, and communities.

Write a 3–5-page paper in Word format. Be sure to include separate title and reference pages. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
