Milestone Deliverables due Weeks 2, 4 and 5

Week 2: Portfolio Milestone: Outline (25 points of the final Portfolio grade)

Prepare an outline of your plan project and submit it to your instructor for review. Please use APA format and include a two- to three-sentence description of each section.

Week 4: Portfolio Milestone: Annotated Bibliography (75 points of the final Portfolio grade)

A solid foundation of research will support the theoretical base and practical applications of your strategic plan. Prepare an annotated bibliography of the 10 or more sources you have selected. Submit the completed document to your instructor for review.

Week 5: Portfolio Milestone: Purpose Statement (50 points of the final Portfolio grade)

Most of us are aware of the term “purpose statement” but are unsure of its real meaning within an organization. It is a statement describing the organization’s purpose, or the reason for its existence. The purpose of an organization reflects a desired position in the marketplace. It should accurately answer to the questions below. The purpose statement is the written summary of those answers.

  • Who are we?
  • What do we do?
  • For whom do we do this?
  • How do we know when we are getting it done?

The purpose statement is the written summary of those answers. The most effective purpose statements are short, concise, and direct. A good purpose statement is between 2–3 sentences.

Answer the four questions above and create a purpose statement for your HR department. Submit the answers to the four questions and the purpose statement to your instructor for review.

NOTE: At this stage, you will need to name your company and decide the service they provide or products they manufacture.

For all Portfolio Milestone assignments: Although you will not earn points the weeks you submit these deliverables, they are required components of the Portfolio Project and you will lose points on your final project grade if you fail to submit these assignments as required by the end of the weeks they are due. See the Portfolio Project grading rubric on the Course Information page for details.

What evidence from additional sources supports your opinion?

What are the reasons employers use the employment interview to fill job openings?

How effective do you think behavior-based interviews that are conducted via telephone are?

Briefly describe the main features of equal employment laws, and tell how this article demonstrates these features.

-Using the knowledge you have accumulated throughout this unit, develop a minimum of seven non-discriminatory interview questions that you would ask when conducting a telephone interview. These questions should be listed on the last page of your critique.

Use the guidelines below to prepare your article critique.

Parts I and II combined must be at least three pages in length.

Identify and analyze current trends in healthcare, including information technology, biotechnology, smart phones, health informatics, and other relevant technologies in the context of the overall US healthcare system.

Research

Each student will prepare a 8-10 page paper, not including cover page and references, that addresses the following question: What is the greatest challenge to US healthcare, why, and what would you recommend?

In the past, I’ve had students simply discuss each of those bulleted points below independently of what they consider to be the greatest challenge.  Do not do that.  If you discuss the role of government, you need to relate the role of government to what you consider to be the greatest challenge to U.S. healthcare.  If you write about current trends, then relate those current trends to the greatest challenge facing U.S. healthcare.

To fully address this question, the analysis MAY consider the following, but remember to tie it back to what you consider to be the single greatest challenge to U.S. healthcare:

  • What role is played by government?
  • Identify and analyze current trends in healthcare, including information technology, biotechnology, smart phones, health informatics, and other relevant technologies in the context of the overall US healthcare system.
  • Address the impact of various stakeholders and influencers.
  • How do education, workforce availability, and human capital issues affect healthcare?
  • Identify key factors driving or limiting the further growth of healthcare.
  • How do the social determinants of health impact? What other external factors might influence healthcare?
  • Deliberate on the roles of professional obligation and ethics.

Grading considerations will include the following factors and apply the same rubric as above.

  • Paper is 8 – 10 pages in length (not including cover page and references), is double spaced, uses 12 point font, and uses correct grammar and spelling
  • Five external citations are included using APA style
  • The paper identifies the issue, examines contributing factors, and applies critical analysis toward drawing a well-founded conclusion.
  • All major assertions and predictions about the future are not just personal opinions but are supported by clear and coherent logic and appropriate external references

What other strategies would be a good fit for your company profile?   Provide a brief overview of these strategies.

2-3 PAGES/-20% OV/VERIFIABLE REFERENCES

Deborah enters your office, and you notice that she looks apprehensive. “Hi, Deborah. What’s up?” you ask, hoping that nothing is wrong.

“Well, your team is doing an excellent job researching, and you’ve been keeping me up-to-date on your findings. My concern is that we are approaching this from a narrow-minded approach.”

“How so?” You ask. You are puzzled. “Our team has been looking at every aspect of the company and considering both internal and external pros and cons.”

“We need your findings put into some kind of management system so we can really see where we are headed regarding our global expansion. I think we need to cover our bases here. Please report back to me next week with your thinking put into a framework.”

Complete the following:

  • A balanced scorecard suggests that we view the organization from four perspectives (the learning & growth perspective, the business process perspective, the customer perspective, and the financial perspective). Analyze the message, the channel, and the potential for feedback. Do you believe that it is effective?

For this assignment, you will research the different ways that managers and leaders use communication to guide their organizations. BBA 2026, Organizational Communication 5 Feel free to use the same organization you researched for the Unit VI Case Study. You are not limited to this organization, but it may be easier to complete the assignment since you have already researched the organization in Unit VI. You can use the same sources for both assignments, if applicable.

Find an instance where the organizational leader communicates directly with his or her employees, investors, or customers. Analyze the message, the channel, and the potential for feedback. Do you believe that it is effective? Do you believe that it is the same type of message that a manager would send? Why, or why not? Remember to focus on the communication styles of both leaders and managers. Strive for an equal balance between the two types of communication styles in your assignment. Example: The Apple events that occur in Cupertino whenever Apple unveils a new product or service are examples of the type of communication you should be analyzing in this assignment. During the events, CEO Tim Cook addresses an audience of employees, investors, and the general public. Cook uses multiple channels to communicate with the audience, including a live face-to-face discussion, live streaming of the discussion, and a recorded video. For the assignment, you would view one of the events, analyze Cook’s message and the effectiveness of the channels, and discuss the potential for feedback. Analyze whether or not the message is an effective example of leadership. Explain whether or not you believe a manager could, or should, use the same types of channels to relay a message. Would it be effective? Note: You do not need to use Apple for this assignment. It is provided as an example only.

Use the standard five-paragraph format (introduction/body/conclusion). Include at least two academic sources. APA format should be used. The assignment should be a minimum of two pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Times new roman 12 font and doubled spaced. Content, organization, and grammar/mechanics will be evaluated. Information about accessing the grading rubric for this assignment is provided

The CEO of Savannah Engineering, Inspection and Insurance Company (SEIIC) often says, “Our most important asset walks out the door every night.” The company relies on the knowledge and skills of its employees for its success. Without its human capital, the company has little to offer its customers. As noted in the introduction to the case, SEIIC has been experiencing difficulty in meeting customer service expectations and is experiencing problems with retaining some of its most valuable employees. Building on your previous work in the case, you will need to analyze the critical HRM areas of training, performance management, and career management.

Summarize key details about the case to date. What are the most important issues affecting SEIIC’s HRM? Your summary should be no more than one to two paragraphs. (Imagine that you are riding down the elevator with SEIIC’s CEO and she asks you to provide a high-level summary of what you’ve discovered so far. You have thirty seconds from the time she gets on the elevator until the time she gets off. What would you say?)
Evaluate at least three current approaches or trends related to training (in organizations), including pros and cons of each.
