Write a high-level strategic human resource management plan (3-4 pages).

Details:

Write a high-level strategic human resource management plan (3-4 pages).

The purpose of this assignment is to simulate the thought process managers use to connect unit goals with organizational strategy. The students are not expected to produce a detailed strategic plan (which in actual organizations can exceed 100 pages). Rather, the expectation is that students demonstrate consideration of the multiple complexities involved in strategic planning.

The assignment is centered on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) model of analysis, and the specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) model of goal setting.

Access the GCU Library, relevant course materials, Internet resources, and the HRM Webliography to research SWOT analysis, SMART goals, and models of strategic proposals.

Access your Scenario Generator Report, which includes a description of the organization, points to reflect on, a SWOT analysis, and directions for a SMART goals report. Use this information to write the Strategic HRM Proposal.

The Strategic HRM Proposal should be in the form of a professional report. There is no single, correct manner of presentation. Creative thinking is expected. The formatting is secondary to the content and application of knowledge. However, the proposal should be organized in a readily comprehensible manner that conveys a thorough understanding of course objectives. Graphics, bulleted lists, tables, and charts are acceptable. Include the following:

  • Introduction and conclusion that make relevant connections to course objectives.
  • Summary of the organizational description included in your Scenario Generator Report.
  • Reflection and application of each point included in your Scenario Generator Report (two to three fully developed sentences per item).

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Instructors will be using a grading rubric to grade the assignments. It is recommended that learners review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment in order to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.

Strategic HRM Plan (Benchmark Assessment)

Discuss Troy’s complexity as he struggles for social equality but fails personally. Think of three ways to describe a character. What literary elements are used to portray this character?

Assignment: Apply concepts of literary analysis to analyze a character from Fences or Trifles.

Choose one character from one of the plays we have read this semester and provide a character analysis (i.e. discuss that character’s relationship to a larger theme of the work).

Outline/Rough Draft: Follow the HATMAT outline format that we have been using. You must have a thesis statement followed by supporting evidence in body paragraphs. Your rough draft must follow your outline.

Thesis Options: You may address a theme that was discussed in class or discussion board, but please find additional examples/evidence that we did not cover in class (i.e. do not simply repeat our classroom discussions). To help craft a thesis, answer one question and your answer would be your thesis. Give examples from their own actions, dialogue, or other literary elements as supporting evidence.

  • What is Mrs. Hale’s connection to the role of women in Trifles?
  • How does Mrs. Peters’ evolve from social conformist to tacit accomplice?
  • How does Troy’s childhood affect his relationship with Cory?
  • Discuss Troy’s complexity as he struggles for social equality but fails personally.
  • Think of three ways to describe a character. What literary elements are used to portray this character?
  • How does the character start in the beginning of the play and how do they change?
  • Certain characters defy expectations. Pick one character and explain what is expected from them by society and explain how they defy these expectations.
  • How does a character not change and what are factors that contribute to their inability to do so?

Resources to consult: Review “Character” chapter (consult Table of Contents or Index for exact page since editions vary) in Literature: Reading, Reacting, Writing textbook. Consult checklist on Writing About Character. To help find evidence, consider these questions:

  1. Is the character round or flat? Static or dynamic?
  2. What elements reveal changes in the character?
  3. What does the character’s dialogue reveal about him/her?
  4. What do other characters reveal about your chosen character through their dialogue?
  5. What does the action in the play reveal about the character?
  6. How do the stage directions contribute to the reader’s understanding of the character?

Evidence: Each supporting body paragraph must include an integrated direct quote with parenthetical citation using textual evidence from the play. Refer to Chapters 2 and 3 in the textbook for student sample essays and example model entries for quoting, parenthetical citation, and MLA documentation. Research requirement: Integrate at least one secondary source from PGCC or HCC Library’s database Gale Literary Sources.

Plot summary is not analysis, and should be avoided. You should only discuss plot details to support specific claims you are making about the literary texts. You may assume that your readers have read the specific texts you are discussing. The goal of literary analysis is to provide insight into the meaning of the play, helping readers understand an author’s message. Essentially, what is the significance or what is learned?

Length: 3-4 pages

These directions are for the option to describe a character with three adjectives as thesis and using literary analysis to find three quotes that demonstrate each adjective.

What are the relevant markets that each of MPBS’s major occupational groups should be compared to?

Assume you are leading a team of consultants hired by MPBS to help develop their total compensation plan.  MPBS wants to implement a compensation plan to support their business strategy. Your team has completed the preliminary review of the organization, including discussions with management, and compiled initial information about MPBS.  That information is detailed in the team report.  MPBS views their mission statement as the driver behind the alignment of policies, purposes and objectives of all operating units in the entire organization.   Your first task is to help the human resources department create a compensation mission statement as the first step in designing their compensation plan.  You are to consider the various factors affecting mission statements and objectives and then: •Recommend a specific compensation mission statement and the specific objectives of the MPBS compensation system that aligns the compensation plan to the company’s mission and strategy.  Provide a rationale to support your mission statement and objectives.  Your second task is to overcome the past reluctance of top management at MPBS to have anyone put much effort into administrative detail.  They have generally opted for a quick and easy approach to policy and practice.  You should plan to educate the top management group regarding the need for more sophisticated and detailed approaches to compensation.  To do so, you must include answers to the following questions that were posed by the new HR manager.  Justify your responses using scholarly sources. •What are the relevant markets that each of MPBS’s major occupational groups should be compared to? •Should MPBS lead, match, or follow competitors? Why? •How will decisions on external competitiveness help MPBS align compensation policies with mission and strategy? •Why is it important and is it worth the effort and cost for MPBS to bother with specifying pay grades and pay ranges? •If pay grades are used, is it better to have few or more grades?   •How should the ranges vary by job type and level? •How much overlap should be built into the grade ranges? •In what ways might the plan MPBS develops and the related compensation policies impact job performance?  To complete this assignment, write a 5–7 page report in Word format and provide rationale and scholarly support.   Apply APA standards for writing style to your work.  By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area.     Assignment 2 Grading Criteria   Maximum Points   Developed compensation mission statement and objectives that aligns the compensation plan to the company’s mission and strategy  20   Determined the relevant markets for each major occupational group.  16   Rationalized whether MPBS should lead, match, or follow competitors and why.  16   Examined how decisions on external competitiveness will help MPBS align compensation policies with mission and strategy.  16   Explained why it is important and worth the effort and cost to specify pay grades and pay ranges.  20   Determined whether it is better to have few or more pay grades.  16   Assessed how the ranges should vary by job type and level.  16   Explained how much overlap should be built into the grade ranges.  16   Evaluated the ways in which the plan and related compensation policies might impact job performance.  20   Written Components: Organization (12) Usage and mechanics (12) APA elements (16)  Style (4)  44   Total:  200    Attachments           Submissions

What is the current state of motivation for employees, and what can you do to improve their motivation?

Unit IV Case Study

This assignment provides you with an opportunity to explain the dynamics of teamwork, including motivation, conflict resolution, and leadership. First, read the scenario below.

Scenario: The vice president (VP) of marketing has hired you as the leader whose first task involves implementing a new process for applying customer service within the organization. The VP shares that the purpose of this initiative is to help resolve a list of issues that are negatively infecting teamwork: (1) morale is low, (2) employees are consistently late for work while others leave early, (3) workers disagree on the daily workload, (4) there is no drive or enthusiasm, and (5) above all, two employees have complained about harassment.

Your team consists of eight employees: three are newly hired employees, five employees are male and three are female. Each employee has a diverse background. Your charge is to reach the goal of improving customer service by directing the team through the five stages of team development.

After reading the scenario, write a minimum three-page paper by using the following questions as guidelines:

1. Motivation: What is the current state of motivation for employees, and what can you do to improve their motivation?

2. Leadership: What can leadership personnel do to positively impact teamwork that eventually leads to better customer service?

3. Resolving conflict: How can the employees approach resolving conflicts with one another in order to maintain a positive teamwork dynamic?

4. Resolving conflict: How can the employees approach resolving conflicts with customers?

5. Teamwork: What types of activities would help the team progress through the five stages of team development? (See page 161 in the textbook for the stages.)

Also, be sure your paper fulfills the following requirements:

 The body of the paper consists of at least three pages.

 The format of your paper follows APA style.

 Properly cite one reference (e.g., journal article) that you located from the university’s online library.

 Properly cite two references (e.g., article, webpage) that you located from reputable sources (e.g., online library or reputable webpages).

 Properly cite your textbook within the paper.

Finally, review your paper thoroughly to revise and correct any mistakes before submitting it in Blackboard for grading.

Examine the relationship between flexibility training and wellness by rating your stress level and muscle tension before and after the session on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the highest).

No unread replies. No replies.

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Experiencing Flexibility Training

For this discussion you will experience a type of flexibility training and reflect on your experience.

  • To begin, select one of these practices: Tai Chi, Yoga, or Pilates.  Describe the benefits of your chosen practice and explain its relationship to wellness.
  • Then, engage in one of these activities by taking a course at your local gym, a recreation center, or a private studio.  If you do not have access to a live class, you may find a digital alternative such as a class from a website, the on-demand channel on TV, a fitness video game, or a DVD.  Be creative in finding a class. You may also check your local library for videos.
  • Next, examine your experience with flexibility training by describing the session, the setting, and three exercises within the session.
    • Which muscles did these three exercises address?  You must use the correct medical terminology for the muscles used in each exercise.
    • Would you continue to incorporate these exercises into your ongoing flexibility training?
    • Examine the relationship between flexibility training and wellness by rating your stress level and muscle tension before and after the session on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the highest).
    • Explain any differences you may have felt physically or mentally after the session.

Your initial post must be a minimum of 250 words. Use at least one scholarly reference properly cited and referenced according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Guided Response: Review several of your classmates’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers.  Compare your experience with those of your peers.  What similarities or differences occurred? Consider the variations in setting, the different exercises, and other variables that may contribute to your peers having experiences that are different or similar to your own. Feel free to share any resources or tools that you discovered during this activity. Each peer response should contain at least 100 words.

ENG315                                    Professional Scenarios

1. Saban is a top performing industrial equipment salesperson for D2D. After three years of working with his best client, he receives a text message from Pat (his direct manager) assigning him to a completely different account.

Pat has received complaints that Saban gets all of the good clients and is not a “team player.”

Saban responds to the message and asks for a meeting with Pat to discuss this change. Pat responds with another text message that reads: “Decision final. Everyone needs to get a chance to work with the best accounts so it is fair. Come by the office and pick up your new files.”

Moments later, Saban sends a text message to Karen, his regional manager and Pat’s boss. It simply reads, “We need to talk.”

2. Amber, Savannah, and Stephen work for Knowledge, Inc. (a consulting company). While on a conference call with Tim Rice Photography (an established client), the group discusses potential problems with a marketing campaign. Tim Rice, lead photographer and owner of Tim Rice Photography, is insistent the marketing is working and changes are not needed.

Amber reaches over to put Tim on “Mute” but accidently pushes a different button. She immediately says to Savannah and Stephen that the marketing campaign is not working and that “…Tim should stick to taking pretty pictures.”

Tim responds, “You know I can hear you, right?”

3. James shows up to work approximately five minutes late this morning, walks silently (but quickly) down the hallway and begins to punch in at the time clock located by the front desk.

Sarah, the front desk manager, says, “Good morning, James,” but James ignores her, punches in, and heads into the shop to his workplace.  Sarah rolls her eyes, picks up the phone, and dials the on-duty manager to alert her that James just arrived and should be reaching his desk any moment.

4. Paul works for the website division of SuperMega retail company. He receives an email late Friday afternoon that explains a new computer will launch at the end of next June and it will be in high demand with limited stock. Also contained in the three-page-message is that customers will be able to preorder the item 30 days before launch according to the production company. Paul is asked to create a landing page for consumers who are interested in learning more about the product.

By mistake, Paul sets up a preorder page for the product that afternoon (well in advance of the company authorized period) and late Friday evening consumers begin to preorder the product. Sharon, Vice President of Product Sales at SuperMega, learns of the error Saturday morning and calls Paul to arrange a meeting first thing Monday morning. Sharon explains to Paul on the phone that the company intends on canceling all of the preorders and Paul responds that the company should honor the preorders because it was not a consumer error. After a heated exchange, Paul hangs up on Sharon when she insists that the preorders will be canceled because of Paul’s error.

Review the processes and outlines of other students, providing objective feedback that will help strengthen the effectiveness of their efforts and the quality of the finished product

Your discussion board question is about the research process and what are process steps involved in conducting research and then how would you apply those steps to conducting the requisite research for your various individual project assignments.  A few recommendations that I have include starting with a review of the project content requirements.  In other words… what information is required for the paper.  Second I would take a template formatted APA word document to create an outline.  Not a traditional outline but an outlined developed from headings (first level) and subheadings (second and third level) in your APA formatted paper.  Then I would fill in the “meat” of the paper with the content.  The aforementioned process will ensure that your document covers the content requirements.  This way you will not have a problem with that.  Second, I would conduct my literature review to identify what has been said/written about the specific topic. I would begin to develop my reference page (which is a list of the sources used as in-text citations in the body of the document).  Keep in mind there should not be a source on your reference page that is not in the body of your paper in the form of an in-text citation. Finally, I would draft the paper with the content framework and the references that you have identified from your research.  Ensure to paraphrase the material to manage your similarity index.

From the perspective of thinking, you want to get into the mindset of research. Vyhmeister & Robertson (2014) notes what conducting research is a highly involved process that is considered somewhat complex (p. 24). You want to ensure that you are conducting research to provide fact based information for your topic in a systematic way. The objective is to have enough information to support your assertions and know what has been said about the topic. This process will also enable you to develop what is called objective knowledge which can only be gained by having some prior knowledge of a topic (Vyhmeister & Robertson, 2014).

Describe the process you plan to use to conduct research, identify findings, and develop the Comprehensive Project that is due in Unit 5.

  • Present a brief outline indicating how you intend to organize the project deliverable.
  • Review the processes and outlines of other students, providing objective feedback that will help strengthen the effectiveness of their efforts and the quality of the finished product.

Describe which step of the model (Notes attached) you believe will be the most difficult for you to apply in the field and why.

Each part has to have at least 500 words

Use Question/ Answer format.

As Cooper (2012) indicates, the goal for public administrators is for a formal ethical decision-making process to become more of an “intuitive decision-making skill” (p. 37). Applying this model repeatedly to different scenarios will help you develop this skill.

Respond to the following:

  • Using a real-world ethical dilemma, summarize how you would apply each step of the design approach in responding to that ethical dilemma.
  • Describe which step of the model (Notes attached) you believe will be the most difficult for you to apply in the field and why.

M8D2: The Responsible Administrator Part 2

Each part has to have at least 500 words

Use Question/ Answer format

For this discussion, reflect on the ethics and leadership concepts you have studied during the course. Consider how you would describe what it means to be a “responsible administrator” and how you believe leadership styles factor into being a responsible administrator.

Respond to the following:

  • Summarize what it means to you to be a “responsible administrator.”
  • Describe how your leadership style factors into being a responsible administrator.
  • Select one practical ethical or leadership aspect you studied during the course and describe how you will implement it in your current or desired role.

Determine one (1) challenge in the culture that may cause a major resistance to the transition from individual learning to organizational learning.

Supporting Document 2: Resistance Risk Mitigation Intervention Table Due Week 6 and worth 100 pointsUsing the same scenario from Assignment 1, you realize that transitioning your organization to a learning environment may not be as easy as first imagined. You have encountered several resistance issues relating to the culture, psychological learning, organization structure, workforce commitment, and dissemination of knowledge. You decide to gather a decision-making team to assist in identifying the high or moderate resistance risks that may stop or slow down the process of this transition. The decision-making team must also recommend some mitigation intervention to lower the identified resistance risks to either moderate or low. For example, a high resistance risk can become moderate or low and moderate resistance risk can become low. Your final product will be a table that identifies five (5) issues related to the organization’s culture, psychological learning, organization structure, workforce commitment, and dissemination of knowledge. You must also provide a description of each resistance issue and rate the resistance risk before the mitigation intervention as either High (H) or Moderate (M). Then, you must provide a description of your team’s mitigation intervention and determine the resistance risk’s downgrade from High (H) to Moderate (M) or Low (L) and / or Moderate (M) to Low (L) after the mitigation intervention. Create a table in which you:

  1. Determine one (1) challenge in the culture that may cause a major resistance to the transition from individual learning to organizational learning. Next, recommend one (1) mitigation intervention to downgrade the identified resistance in your table. Provide a rationale for your selected mitigation intervention.
  2. Predict one (1) psychological learning threat that may result from the transition and then provide one (1) mitigation intervention to downgrade the identified resistance in your table. Provide a rationale for your selected mitigation intervention.
  3. Assess the current organization structure as it relates to the free flow of knowledge then specify one (1) issue that may cause a major resistance to the transition. Provide one (1) mitigation intervention to downgrade the identified resistance in your table. Provide a rationale for your selected mitigation intervention.
  4. Critique the workforce commitment to this transition and predict one (1) major resistance you may encounter. Next, provide a mitigation intervention to downgrade the identified resistance in your table. Provide a rationale for your selected mitigation intervention.
  5. Propose one (1) dissemination of knowledge issue with the recipients’ ability to absorb the knowledge and comprehend it into action (i.e., motivating the recipient to share knowledge). Next, provide one (1) mitigation intervention to downgrade the identified resistance in your table. Provide a rationale for your selected mitigation intervention.
  6. Use the Resistance Risk Mitigation Intervention Table template located here. You may also use Microsoft Word or other equivalent software to create a table in an equivalent format for this supporting document.
