Appropriate organizational development intervention options with the inclusion of general risk and value scenarios

For this Portfolio Project option, analyze and synthesize data acquired from an illustrative, fictional case study (see below) and present the findings in a paper. The audience for this paper is organizational development specialists and business executives who are attendees at a professional OD association meeting.

Use the organization you identified in the Module 4 Critical Thinking Assignment (in either option). This organization should serve as the beginning of the final case study, however:

  • If you completed the Module 4, Option #1 Critical Thinking Assignment, you will already have some of this information collected and created regarding the fictional organization.
  • If you completed the Module 4, Option #2 assignment, you will use that company, but change the name of the company and any other information as you further develop your illustrative, fictional case study. You will also incorporate your survey instrument into your final case study.

Your project will include:

  • An illustrative, fictional case study
  • Diagnostic methods
  • Analysis and feedback methods
  • Appropriate organizational development intervention options with the inclusion of general risk and value scenarios
  • Evaluation methods and planned changes
  • References of outside sources including academic sources

Your final paper must be 8-10 pages long, cite a minimum of five sources, and be formatted per the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements. The CSU-Global Library is a great place to find sources! Include a title page and reference list page as part of the final project (but not as part of the page count). Submit your final case study to the Week 8 Assignments page.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word response to your client that demonstrates positive regard, empathy, and listening skills.

Effective interpersonal communication skills can support the building, development, and maintenance of therapeutic relationships. Listening, demonstrating positive regard, building rapport, displaying empathy, and minimizing distractions are all techniques that can build and create a caring, safe, and supportive therapeutic environment.

Read the following scenario:

A client comes to your office without an appointment. The client, a 40-year-old female, has been working to gain custody of her two, school-aged children. She is visibly upset, crying and yelling on her phone. She enters your office, indicating the court hearing for her children has been rescheduled due to her missing an important home visit. She has asked you contact the courts to advocate on her behalf. Although this is outside the realm of your role, you would like to show the client you are interested in supporting her concerns.

This assignment has two parts:

Part 1: Script

Write a 700- to 1,050-word response to your client that demonstrates positive regard, empathy, and listening skills.

Use what you have learned to identify how to gain her full attention, show interest, and minimize distractions.

Include in your paper a script of how you would respond to the scenario. The script is NOT the entire paper, include other information about interviewing using research. Cite and reference all research in correct APA format.

Focus your discussion on how you will show your client the following concepts:

  • Positive regard
    • Consider the value of positive regard and empathy in building rapport
    • Building rapport and displaying empathy
    • Listening for comprehension and gaining information
    • Gaining attention and showing interest
    • Minimizing distractions and barriers
    • Importance of note taking

Explain whether or not you believe a manager could, or should, use the same types of channels to relay a message.

For this assignment, you will research the different ways that managers and leaders use communication to guide their organizations.  Feel free to use the same organization you researched for the Unit VI Case Study. You are not limited to this organization, but it may be easier to complete the assignment since you have already researched the organization in Unit VI. You can use the same sources for both assignments, if applicable.  Find an instance where the organizational leader communicates directly with his or her employees, investors, or customers. Analyze the message, the channel, and the potential for feedback. Do you believe that it is effective? Do you believe that it is the same type of message that a manager would send? Why, or why not?  Remember to focus on the communication styles of both leaders and managers. Strive for an equal balance between the two types of communication styles in your assignment.  Example: The Apple events that occur in Cupertino whenever Apple unveils a new product or service are examples of the type of communication you should be analyzing in this assignment. During the events, CEO Tim Cook addresses an audience of employees, investors, and the general public. Cook uses multiple channels to communicate with the audience, including a live face-to-face discussion, live streaming of the discussion, and a recorded video. For the assignment, you would view one of the events, analyze Cook’s message and the effectiveness of the channels, and discuss the potential for feedback. Analyze whether or not the message is an effective example of leadership. Explain whether or not you believe a manager could, or should, use the same types of channels to relay a message. Would it be effective?  Note: You do not need to use Apple for this assignment. It is provided as an example only.  Use the standard five-paragraph format (introduction/body/conclusion). Include at least two academic sources. APA format should be used. The assignment should be a minimum of two pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Content, organization, and grammar/mechanics will be evaluated.

Imagine that you are the executive talent manager for a major global fortune 500 organization. You handle all of the Human Capital Management for the United States which has about 30,000 employees. You have built strong internal relationships with all of the North American business lines. Each business line has an executive head that has approached you with concerns about the workforce. The executive heads are having a difficult time keeping track of the talent that exists in their business line and the supply versus demand that will be needed in the future in regards to their workforce. They are also concerned about how they will attract and retain talent when needed. You offer them a solution that blends talent management with Human Resources Information Systems.

Read the two (2) articles listed below: • “Integrating talent management and core HR systems valuable but tricky,” located at http://searchfinancialapplications.techtarget.com/feature/Integrating-talent-management-and-core-HR-systems-valuable-but-tricky. • “Effective Recruiting, Staffing and Applicant Tracking in a high turnover Environment: Filling seats in a demanding work environment,” located at http://www.hrvillage.com/human-resources/applicant-tracking.htm.

  • How would you explain to each executive your plan of integrating talent management with an HRIS so that they have line of sight for the talent that exists in their business?
  • In addition to addressing this to each Executive head, suggest two (2) challenges that may arise from this plan.
  • Then, describe three (3) benefits of integrating talent management with HRIS.

The Closing and Relocation of a Call Center

In this case study, you are the regional human resource director for a Fortune 500 company. You receive an unexpected visit from your vice president of human resources (VP of HR), who informs you that there is a reorganization taking place within your company. He starts by explaining that the president of the company has decided to retire after 28 years, and the new president has decided to move the current headquarters from the Northeast to Texas. No business reason was provided. There will be almost 1,000 employees redeployed since the company has existed in the Northeast for more than 75 years. This information will be released to employees within the next week. The call center—with more than 500 employees, including your office that is located within it—will also be relocated to another southern state. All employees will be offered their current positions and a relocation package if they wish to move. Those who do not want to relocate will be given a severance package with outplacement services provided.

Mr. Davis, your VP of HR, is aware that you hired most of the individuals working in the call center and that you are very familiar with the culture and employee status. This news will be devastating to the employees because they have made this the most productive and efficient call center within this global corporation. Mr. Davis came to get your advice on how to best handle the communications plan for announcing this news in your region.

Mr. Davis has taken care of notifications to the state and federal government (i.e., the 60-day notice required according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification [WARN] Act, which announces that the business is relocating and that employees will be redeployed). From previous experience, Mr. Davis shares with you that you will be contacted by the state to set up meetings so that the state may address all of the employees concerning the state benefits and services available to the employees.

Mr. Davis shares two important messages from the new president: (1) Although this news may be unsettling to many employees, business must be conducted in the same professional manner as always, with the least amount of disruption; and (2) whether the employees decide to relocate or not, while they are employed, they must maintain productivity levels, and their metrics will be monitored as usual.

Mr. Davis informs you that Mr. Woods, senior vice president (SVP) of the region, who is responsible for the call center, is being told of this reorganization via a conference call with his boss on the West Coast and the president of the company. Mr. Woods will be joining you and Mr. Davis to plan the communications shortly. Mr. Davis wants to get a head start on planning with you because he has a flight scheduled back to headquarters that afternoon.

You begin to outline a plan for the communications strategy; for example, you include information that will assist Mr. Woods in preparation for his meeting with his direct reports where he will deliver the news. Other questions you think about during the development of the outline are as follows: What information will Mr. Woods give to his direct reports this afternoon, and what will he give them to share with their managers and employees? Mr. Davis sees your outline, and he encourages you to develop your outline into a communication plan/plan of action and to continue to share it with Mr. Woods.

Before Mr. Davis leaves for the airport, he asks you to report back to him with any issues or difficulties you are experiencing with employees. Mr. Davis also asks that you report the following information to him: How many employees do you think will want to relocate? What do they want to know about the new location? What can he do to help answer these questions for the employees? What can he do to assist you with the communication plan or any activities you plan within the next 60-day period? Mr. Davis gives you all of his contact numbers and reminds you that he is available to you for questions and concerns at any time.

Analyze the information presented in this case study, present your communication plan, and answer the questions below. Your case study paper should be at least three pages in length and should follow APA guidelines.

Your communication plan should address the following questions:

What are your concerns? For example, how will you motivate the employees to stay throughout the 60 days if they have other job offers? How will you motivate all employees to maintain their productivity levels? In the article “Semper Fidelis! A Recipe for Leading Others,” which is part of your Required Reading for this unit, Aubrey Daniels describes how a person earns leadership status and explains the importance of positive reinforcement. How will your plan help you to establish yourself as a positive reinforcer?

What leadership style does Mr. Davis exhibit? Propose at least three leadership theories that could be applied to this situation. How will these theories advance or affect employee motivation?

You are required to incorporate information from at least three sources in the required reading for the unit as well as two additional sources in your response. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations and references. Your paper should be formatted in APA style to include a title page and reference page.

Describe the specific organization including size, mission, and location. Describe the change that is taking place (or is scheduled to take place) in the organization.

Change Management Proposal

Since the health care environment is constantly changing and transforming, the ability to manage and adapt to change is essential in health care organizations. Change, whether prompted internally or externally or perceived positively or negatively, can be unsettling, making it crucial that health care administrators understand the change process. From implementation planning to effectively communicating with employees and managing conflicts, administrators must be prepared to manage change within their organizations. For this Assignment, you examine an organization undergoing change and develop a change management proposal.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Locate and select an organization where change is currently taking place (or is scheduled to take place).
  • Analyze the organization to develop a change management proposal.

The Assignment

In a 7- to 10-page proposal, address the following:

  • Describe the specific organization including size, mission, and location. Describe the change that is taking place (or is scheduled to take place) in the organization.
  • Analyze what is driving the change to take place.
  • Given the parameters of the change, summarize the resistance or conflict you might expect and why.
  • Evaluate change management theories and models and select one to apply to the change occurring in the organization. Support why you selected this theory or model.
  • Apply systems thinking to address the impact of the change throughout the organization.
  • Recommend strategies and innovations that could be implemented to effect the organizational change and provide rationale for the recommendations.
  • Explain the role that communication will play in your plan. Analyze how communication could be used to handle concerns and doubts of stakeholders.
  • Recommend strategies you will use to motivate stakeholders and prepare them to accept, embrace, and sustain the change. Categorize key groups that you anticipate will require targeted motivation strategies.
  • Recommend training and support required for the successful implementation of the organizational change.
  • Recommend strategies for sustaining an organizational change.
  • Explain how stakeholders are involved in and held accountable for the organizational change.
  • Recommend ways to measure the success of the organizational change and when transformational change has occurred.

Note: The change management proposal should be 7–10 pages, not including the title and reference pages. Include graphs or charts and a 1-page executive summary. Your Assignment must be written in standard edited English. Be sure to support your work with specific citations from this week’s Learning Resources and at least three additional scholarly sources. Refer to the Essential Guide to APA Style for Walden Students to ensure that your in-text citations and reference list are correct. See the rubric for additional requirements related to research and scholarly writing.

Conceptualizing a Social Work Issue From Critical Theory or Feminist Theory

As a doctoral student, you are learning to become a scholar-practitioner, but what does this mean? At Walden University, the scholar-practitioner moves from being a “consumer of knowledge” to an “agent of change.” Part of this journey of learning involves obtaining the skills in establishing your voice. As your voice develops, you will disseminate and translate your research knowledge into practical solutions to implement in the field of social work. You will find many vehicles to express this “voice”; one is to present at community, local, and national workshops and conferences.

Let’s assume that you will be presenting in your local community about one of the following topics: crime, cultural competency, trauma, or organizational leadership. You will also be conceptualizing the topic from either critical theory or feminist theory. In this Assignment, you simulate your community presentation by creating a PowerPoint presentation and delivering the presentation using Kaltura.

To prepare:

  • Review the following article from the Learning Resources: “Critical Theory as a Framework for Child Welfare Decision-Making: Some Possibilities” in the Journal of Public Child Welfare.
  • Review the website and guides for developing PowerPoint skills listed in the Learning Resources.
  • Select from one of the following social work topics or problems: crime, cultural competency, trauma, or organizational leadership.
  • Select either critical theory or feminist theory as the epistemological paradigm to conceptualize your chosen topic.

Submit a Kaltura video that is no longer than 4–5 minutes in which you present a PowerPoint that consists of 8–10 slides. Submit your PowerPoint file separately as well. Your presentation should address the following:

  • Identify the topic or problem selected and provide a brief overview using peer-reviewed literature.
  • Analyze the ontological, axiological, and methodological assumptions of critical theory or feminist theory for the selected topic or problem.
  • Analyze the issue of power relative to your topic or problem within the social work practice context from the perspective of critical theory or feminist theory.
  • Describe engaging or partnering with clients, families, communities, or organizations within the context of your selected topic or problem from the perspective of critical theory or feminist theory.
  • Provide one recommendation for how you could be an agent of social change in the field of social work on the topic you selected by wearing a critical theory or feminist theory lens.
  • Explain to what extent viewing the topic or problem from a critical theory or feminist theory alters your initial conceptualization of the topic or problem.

For the PowerPoint presentation, be sure to:

  • Use literature to support your claims.
  • Use APA formatting and style.
  • Include a reference list on the last slide.

Discuss the key components of the FLSA overtime requirements, focusing specifically on considering the legal distinction between exempt and nonexempt employees.

I will need 15 slides but only 13 slides with 150-200 speaker notes.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes guidelines related to minimum wage, overtime pay, record-keeping, and child labor. Some companies find themselves facing legal challenges when they inappropriately classify employees as exempt or nonexempt for the purpose of overtime payments.

You have discovered that Elora Jean & Co. has classified many of its nonproduction positions as exempt. As the human resources (HR) legal consultant contracted to review all HR policies, you are concerned with legal exposure, union challenges that may result, and poor tracking of hours worked for the purpose of paying overtime. You plan to prepare a presentation for Elora Jean & Co.’s owner, outlining your observations, concerns, and recommendations, keeping in mind the company’s desire to remain competitive while adhering to employment laws.

Components of this presentation will include the following:

  • Discuss the key components of the FLSA overtime requirements, focusing specifically on considering the legal distinction between exempt and nonexempt employees.
  • Generalize how FLSA will affect Elora Jean & Co.’s ability to classify employees as exempt or nonexempt in relation to the payment of overtime, and determine at what point overtime is paid with regard to hours worked. Research of federal and Indiana state laws is necessary.
  • Discuss the implications of improperly paying union staff and not having a defined overtime policy as it relates to labor relations.
  • Discuss the legal implications of improper classification.
  • Develop a procedure that Elora Jean & Co. can use to equitably manage overtime at its facilities.
  • Formulate strategies that you recommend to ensure that Elora Jean & Co. accurately classifies employees as exempt or nonexempt. Discuss the roles that job analysis and job descriptions play in the process.
  • Discuss the record-keeping requirements imposed by the FLSA.
  • Address legal issues of minimum wage, overtime pay, record keeping, and child labor for the Malaysian facility. Assess possible HR policy differences in the Malaysian operation and how they may affect Elora Jean & Co.’s domestic workforce.
