You are the administrator on call for Hospital A and are responsible for accepting and rejecting patients. You receive a call at 2:00 a.m. from Health Hospital B regarding a patient with a severed ear.If you decide to reject the patient, is this a violation of EMTALA? Explain.

Write a 1,000-1,250 word paper in which you analyze a scenario using the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA).

You are the administrator on call for Hospital A and are responsible for accepting and rejecting patients. You receive a call at 2:00 a.m. from Health Hospital B regarding a patient with a severed ear.

The ED physician is calling to arrange an EMTALA-qualified transfer from his hospital to yours, but the ENT physician on call at your hospital is refusing to accept the transfer, stating that the patient does not need a higher level of care.

You call your ENT on call, and he admits he has just had three glasses of wine and will not be available for about 6 hours. You electronically send him the record that Health Hospital B would send with the patient. The ENT physician advises that the ear looks salvageable and could easily be sutured in any ED. The ED physician at Health Hospital B is very nervous about the possibility of an EMTALA violation.

  1. If you decide to reject the patient, is this a violation of EMTALA? Explain.
  2. What decision will you make as the administrator? Explain.
  3. Based on this scenario, what could be implemented to prevent this type of situation from occurring in the future?
  4. Under what scenario would the Hospital A physician be concerned about an EMTALA situation?

How might your family’s vacation/s or lack of vacations be different than the image of a middle class heterosexual white family on vacation? What might be different about the destinations, preparation, and maneuvering?

In My America…Or, Honk If You Love Buddha, Renee Tajima-Peña remembers the summer vacations she and her family went on as a child. She characterizes her parent’s desire to go on family vacations as a way to fit in after Japanese Internment and World War II, even though she and her family were painfully aware that they were the only Asian Americans on the road.

Summer vacations or the lack of a summer vacation reveal quite a bit about race, class, and gender dynamics. Look back on your own family’s vacations or lack of vacations and find at least two photos you want to analyze.  Identify and describe the vacation or summer captured in the photos you selected to analyze.  How might your family’s vacation/s or lack of vacations be different than the image of a middle class heterosexual white family on vacation? What might be different about the destinations, preparation, and maneuvering?

You will want to answer the above questions in a 1000+ essay. Please format your essay using the Modern Language Association’s (Links to an external site.) formatting guidelines and upload load it to Canvas as a PDF file. Thank you!

*Describe the opportunities for bonding or breastfeeding your child immediately after delivery.
*How long did you stay in the hospital, and how long did it take you to recover?
*How do you feel about the experience in general?
*What was particularly positive about your experience? Do you wish something had been different about the experience?
After your interviews, summarize in writing the answers of each mom you interviewed on paper in one page each. Then write an additional two page minimum reflection, connecting what you learned to concepts and ideas from your text. You must include at least three short related quotes with page numbers from the textbook in the reflection portion of the assignment.

What makes Shakespeare’s play a tragedy?  Describe some of the elements that you feel make this play a Tragedy?-othello

What makes Shakespeare’s play a tragedy?

Describe some of the elements that you feel make this play a Tragedy? (Give examples from the play, describe some of the “Preventable” events, What causes them to occur?- Don’t tell me the plot! Hint: She drops a handkerchief…what happens? is that preventable? )

*Note- Emotions, Communication, and Misunderstandings are not preventable! Do not tell me that “Othello just needed to talk to Desdemona” or that “Iago couldn’t have prevented everything by not doing the following…” these are Hypotheticals, and are not facts. You must look at the events of the play and find the ones that could have been stopped. In the case of the Handkerchief.

Do not say that “Desdemona shouldn’t have dropped it, that’s why she’s dead now”

One- that’s victim blaming and was a totally accident.

Two- Emelia GIVING the handkerchief to her husband is the event. If she didn’t do that, then Iago wouldn’t have been able to see his plot all the way through. Emelia immediately knows that something is wrong the moment this event happens as well (thinking that her husband may show her love again… and he simply doesn’t).

Think of this as if it was a court of law. What are the facts? What are the actually events and/or actions that happen that could have been prevented (avoid hypotheticals, opinions, or conjecture).

 (2 Paragraph minimum.)

ALSO DO NOT SAY

Cause they all die. Cause Othello dies. Cause everyone is sad and they all die.  Death doesn’t make something tragic…

2) Shakespeare demonstrates a sense of Humanity, and Justice in most all of his plays… except for this one it seems. It is also hard to watch this play and keep in mind what the concept of “Race” was in Shakespeare’s time. Scholars say about Othello:

“The play is unique in featuring a Muslim black man as the main protagonist, thus making the work highly relevant in response to the Elizabethan era’s racial policies towards the Moors. Although blacks were not yet regarded as slaves during that time, they had been recently deported after having just been granted diplomatic rights by Queen Elizabeth in 1601. This was due largely to fears of overpopulation, and despite the slave trade not yet being established, the black race was considered inferior during the writing of “Othello.” For this reason, “Othello” is considered a groundbreaking cultural work for its time, as a black Moor is depicted as a civilized, noble, Christian protagonist, which forced its audiences to reconsider racial status during the early 16th century.”

That being said… Why do you think Shakespeare wrote this play? Was he standing up for a different race? Was it an observation about humanity around him? Equality? Equity?

(1-2 Paragraph  min.)

DO NOT SAY

He was Racist. He wanted to scare people. He liked death and White Women.

What did Bernal Diaz think worthy of writing down?  (i.e. what is the main focus of his narrative?) Why does he highlight some things and ignore things that are prominent features in the two indigenous sources?

What did Bernal Diaz think worthy of writing down?  (i.e. what is the main focus of his narrative?)

Why does he highlight some things and ignore things that are prominent features in the two indigenous sources?

In what ways is he fairly credible and why?  (What reasons would you give for finding him a trustworthy informant?)

In what ways is he not credible?  (What reasons would you give for not finding him a trustworthy informant?)

How does Bernal Diaz describe local indigenous peoples?  The Tlaxcalteca, Cempoallans and others?  What words does he use?

How does he describe Doña Marina?  (Malintzin)

List 3 or 4 examples in the Bernal Diaz reading that you think illustrate a likely misunderstanding between the Spaniards and the Tlaxcalteca.

What do you think of Diaz’s account of the Spaniard’s victory over the Tlaxcalteca?  How does he explain it?

What did indigenous artists and scribes think important?   What aspects of these military encounters do their accounts (written or pictorial) highlight?

What is most prominent in the images in the Lienzo de Tlaxcala?  Humans? Animals? Food?

What do these images convey about social hierarchy in indigenous (Nahua) culture?

How do the Tlatelolcan nobles (authors of the Florentine Codex) describe Europeans?

How do they describe their former allies? (the people of Tenochtitlan?)

Is there any evidence in these two sources to suggest that that indigenous peoples admired or feared Spaniards?

Who takes precedence in many of the images of the Lienzo de Tlaxcala?  Who appears to be managing – directing events?   Why do you think she is portrayed this way?

What do you think of the actions taken by the women of Tlatelolco?

Research Del Monte Ketchup and about Khabarovsk, Russia. (Hint: This is an American brand that may be linked to one’s status symbol) What is the Per Capita Income in Khabarovsk, Russia?  You will notice the income in Khabarovsk is quite different from that of Moscow, Russia.

ASSIGNMENT 6

PRICE
JAMBA JUICE, DEL MONTE, COCA COLA

Objective:

Price is the only element in the Marketing 4P that generates revenue.  Product, Place, and Promotion all cost money.  Price is the only element that makes money, but perhaps the most intricate.

  • Income Per Capita is different in different countries
  • Purchase Power Parity plays a role
  • Pricing requires basis of pricing
    • Cost Plus Pricing
    • Markup Pricing
    • Demand Based Pricing
    • Competition Based Pricing
  • Then there are various pricing strategies
    • Differential Pricing
    • New Product Pricing (Penetration, Skimming)
    • Product-Line (Captive, Premium, Bait)
    • Psychological (Bundle, EDLP, Prestige)
    • Promotional
  • For highly priced item (e.g. I-phone) the pricing has to be same regardless of Income Per Capita to avoid Arbitrage
  • Finally, the most challenging of all is the consumer’s “Perception of the Value”

The objective of this assignment is to evaluate how pricing should be determined in different countries, depending on the all the challenges listed above.

Let us assume that you are a consultant being asked by three clients: Jamba Juice, Del Monte Ketchup, and Coca Cola.

All these clients wish to research the probability of market entry into the cities they do not have presence in yet.  Jamba Juice wishes to enter Lagos, Nigeria. Del Monte Ketchup wishes to enter Khabarovsk, Russia.  Coca Cola wishes to enter San Salvador, El Salvador.  These cities are major cities in their respective country that once these companies succeed in these major cities, they plan on expanding to other major cities.

Average household income in these cities are not nearly that of average household income in the U.S.  Jamba Juice, Del Monte Ketchup, Coca Cola are perishables, so arbitrage concept does not apply.  These products are consumables that should be within the range of what average household income should be able to afford…or should they?

    1. What is the Per Capita Income in Khabarovsk, Russia?  You will notice the income in Khabarovsk is quite different from that of Moscow, Russia.
    2. What is the Purchase Power Parity?  What can Per Capita Income in Khabarovsk buy considering their cost of living?
    3. What is Del Monte’s company’s basis of pricing?

  3. Research Coca Cola and all the countries it has presence in, as well as San Salvador, El Salvador. Unlike Jamba Juice and Del Monte, Coca Cola already has presence in many countries, with all levels of per capita income.  Coke has a long-standing global experience.
    1. What is the Per Capita Income in San Salvador, El Salvador?

    6. What is the actual price of Coke in San Salvador?
    7. How does the Coke price in San Salvador compare to that of the price in the U.S. in terms of the product price ratio to the household income?
    8. With Coke’s intention of being a global brand, what did Coke do to uphold the brand image but at the same time make the product cost cheaper so that they can sell the product at a cheaper price point?
      (hint: container)

The most challenging aspect of pricing is “consumers’ perceived value.”  In the U.S., even free products are not wanted if consumers do not see the value in possessing them. On the other hand, just having a logo or emblem put on a product can make the product be highly desirable with premium pricing.

    2. If you were given a task of increasing the perception to a super-premium brand, what would you need to do?
      1. Would you change the product? If so, how?
      2. Understanding that Jamba Juice being an American product, Nigerians’ sentiment towards the U.S. will have some impact on the perception of the product. How would you control this?
  • How would you promote (position the brand image)?
  1. Researching the consumer base in Khabarovsk,
    1. What is your group’s consensus on the perception of Del Monte Ketchup?
    2. If you were given a task of increasing the perception to a super-premium brand, what would you need to do?
      1. Would you change the product? If so, how?
      2. Understanding that Del Monte being an American product, Russians’ sentiment towards the U.S. will have some impact on the perception of the product. How would you control this?
  • How would you promote (position the brand image)?
  1. Researching the consumer base in San Salvador,
    1. How would you handle the Coke War (Coke vs Pepsi) that takes place globally?
      1. How would you position Coke differently from Pepsi?
      2. What would you with the product?
        1. Any new flavors you would introduce?
        2. Any new packaging you would introduce?
      3. If you were given a liberty to do in San Salvador what Coke did in any other part of the world and succeeded, what would that be?
