Instructions

As a manager of an organization, you will often need to find ways to cut costs. One way to cut costs is to outsource by hiring another organization to perform the service. Consider the scenario below. As a manager for the public outreach department, you realize that the current system for managing outreach issues is outdated. You would like to have a new outreach system developed using the Cloudera platform to help manage big data. However, no one in the organization has the expertise. You will have to outsource the project to save on costs and avoid management problems. Two companies have sent in a bid—one from Vancouver, Canada, and one from Mumbai, India. The bid from India was slightly lower than the bid from Canada. Compose a response that includes the elements listed below.

  • Summarize the management advantages, cost reduction, and risk reduction of outsourcing.
  • Summarize the outsourcing risks concerning control, long-term costs, and exit strategy.
  • Discuss which company you would outsource to and why. Does distance matter?

Annotated Bibliographies: How to Change the Status Quo to a New Model

Ali, M. (2011). Changing the status quo bias. British Journal of Ophthalmology, 1-17. https://doi:10.1136/bjo.2010.200428

The journal addresses difficulty encountered in getting organizations to change their ways of operation. The author performs a study to understand the methodology required to ensure that people abide by the set procedure to solve a specific problem. The paper concludes with a personal perspective on how to ensure that the members of an organization don’t resist a change in the status quo.

The paper is essential for my research since it breaks down changing an organization’s status quo by carefully analyzing each milestone. The author discusses risk action theories, which I believe will be a helpful tool for my paper.

Cantrell, M. H., & Collister, L. B. (2019, June 21). The status quo bias and the uptake of open access. First Monday: Peer-reviewed Journal on the internet, 24(7). Retrieved March 20, 2021, from https://dx.doi.org/10.5210/fm.v24i7.10089

In this peer-reviewed journal article, the authors frame status quos bias in terms of the causative factors. They investigate the relationship between the interpretation of information and the execution of open access to eliminate change resistance.

The paper utilizes qualitative and quantitative research approaches to identify the various correlating factors to change the status quo. The article is helpful in my research due to the unique approach towards the subject matter.

Clarke, S. (2016). The reversal test, status quo bias, and opposition to human cognitive enhancement. Canadian Journal of Philosophy, 46(3), 369-386. Retrieved from https://doi.org/10.1080/00455091.2016.1176982

The author Steve Clarke utilizes a modified Bostrom and Ord’s reversal test methodology to extrapolate the relationship between status quo change and the status quo bias. The paper tackles various ways the burden of proof falls to be substantiated and provides an insight on how to mitigate the limitations. The conducted research narrows down to the specific circumstances in an organization which can apply the methodology.

The paper is essential for my research due to the extensive coverage it provides for reversal test methodologies. It explains how the efficacy of the methods can be improved and denotes its limitation. Status quo bias is also profoundly discussed.

Dean, M., Kibris, O., & Masatlioglu, Y. (2017). Limited attention and status quo bias. Journal of Economic Theory, 169(1), 93-127. Retrieved from https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jet.2017.01.009

The authors characterize a model of status quo in both the psychological constraints and attention diversion. The study aims to form the correlation between the larger model choice sets and smaller model choice sets and how they affect the status quo bias. The paper also addresses the efficiency of a status quo in changing choices between non-status quo options.

The paper is essential because it extensively covers limited attention and its impact on an organization’s status quo bias. It assumes a statistical approach to confirm the correlations.

Golden, S. J., Dyne, L. V., & Wanberg, C. (2015). Challenging the status quo: Advances in behavior change research. Academy of Management Proceedings. New York. Retrieved from https://doi.org/10.5465/ambpp.2015.15386symposim

The article is based on the complexity of behavioral change in an organization. The authors systematically analyze the importance of change in motivation, leadership, training and skill gaining, and methodological approaches. It analyses why they rebound back to unhealthy habits and poor ethics after instigating a positive change. The authors disregard the single-phase behavior change methodology in favor of a two-stage model; for each stage, a self-regulation process is discussed.

The Journal article provides a modified model of understanding the reasons why the members of an organization may reject a change in a status quo or reverse back to unethical behavior after the stimulus has died off. The methodology discussed by the authors is essential for my research.

Hassain, S. T., Lei, S., Akram, T., Haider, M. J., Hussain, S. H., & Ali, M. (2016). Kurt Lewin’s change model: A critical review of the role of leadership and employee involvement in organizational change. Journal of Innovation & Knowledge, 3, 123-127. Retrieved from https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jik.2016.07.002

The authors emphasize the importance of change for the growth and development of a business organization. It analyses various theories describing the different methodology applicable in the facilitation of change in the status quo. The paper’s models include the Action research model, the positive model, and Lewins’s change model. The article presents the applicability of each model in various departments of an organization.

The critical commentary performed on the status quo change models and their applicability is essential for my paper. The article’s systematic and analytical approach to existing methodology is an excellent asset in quantitative analysis for the literature review in my research.

Hyun, K. D., & Kim, J. (2015). The role of new media in sustaining the status quo: online political expression, nationalism, and system support in China. Information Communication & Society, 18(7), 766-781. Retrieved from http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/1369118X.2014.994543

The paper discusses social and mass media’s role in the pushing and sustenance of a change in the status quo. The report is based on a case study model conducted in China to investigate user-generated online interrelation’s efficacy to push for a change in political organizations. Since the research conducted in the journal is based on an international country, it is a great comparison tool for various methodology on the status quo change. Due to these, the paper is essential in my research.

Richman, J. (2011). Parties, Pivots, and Policy: The Status Quo Test. American Political Science Review, 105(1), 151-165. Retrieved March 20, 2021, from https://doi.org/10.1017/S0003055410000638

The study conducted in the research is a novel methodology that measures the policy regions concerning political legislations. The technique facilitates the direct comparisons between pivotal politics and the party cartel theories. The author later performs empirical procedures to prove how the political affiliations interact to shape and push for a political change in the legislature circles.

The research paper is essential for my study since it addresses the status quo’s change from a different perspective. The status quo test used in the research is critical for the methodology section of my research.

Shevchenko, Y., Helversen, B. V., & Scheibehenne, B. (2014, May 3). Change and status quo in decisions with defaults: The effect of incidental emotions depends on the type of default. Judgment and Decision Making, 9(3), 287-296. https://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11747-008-0084-2

The authors perform research to determine the effect of providing a default option for change and the acceptability among members of an organization. The authors highlight the efficacy of a positive mood on the acceptability of change. The research covers a case study performed on internet users to investigate how different moods( happiness and sadness) prompted the respondents to maintain their present status quo or a default inducing a change in status quo.

The paper is essential in my research since it explains the correlation between mood and people’s ability to stick to a default when a change in status quo is prompted. The paper will be helpful during the research discussion.

Varone, F., Ingold, K., & Jourdain, C. (2017). Defending the status quo across venues and coalitions: evidence from California interest groups. Journal of Public Policy, 37(1), 1-26. https://doi:10.1017/S0143814X16000179

The study presented in the research article focuses on the conditions under which the pro-status quo management boosts policymaking advocacy. It comprises a case study performed by legislators and policymakers for stem cell research. The modeled case study investigates the impact of a central management position in the advocacy for a change in the status quo.

The research paper is essential for my study since it identifies the conditions under which a pro-status quo advocacy group can trigger a change in the structure of a policy for an organization.
