What did the information in the chapter reveal about you as a learner and as an international graduate student studying in the US?  Of the information you learned, what key concepts would you share with a new international graduate student preparing to study in the US. Why do you think this information would benefit this student?

Purpose:

During the term, you will be required to read the Thomas Frank book, 10 Steps to Earning Awesome Grades (while studying less) and write three reflection papers about what you readThere are two main purposes of this assignment. The first is to provide you with the opportunity to choose an area/skill set/topic from the book in which you would like to investigate further. A second purpose is to provide you with the opportunity to develop and practice the successful graduate student habit of integrating learning with required reading and reading critically to improve understanding.

Reflection Paper Guidelines

This assignment will require you to connect what you have read in your extensive reading book to discussions we have as a class and to your own experiences as an OSU student. You will also need to connect the information in the reading to how you see it helping you to be successful in your journey through graduate school. You will need to submit three different reflection papers covering three different chapters/topics from the bookCheck due dates at the bottom of this document.

In all of your reflection papers, you will need to identify which chapter/topics you will reflect upon. You must choose a different topic/chapter for each reflection. You will then need to address the four questions listed below. Reflections need to be a balance of your ideas/experiences with the information/concepts you gained from the chapter you read. Your paper should interpret and connect ideas from the chapter rather than summarize the text or give unsupported opinions. Your reflection paper should have a clear introduction and conclusion. Do not simply write the questions with your responses below them. Your reflection paper should read as a coherent paper that fully addresses each of the four questions.  All borrowed ideas, words, and phrases are to be given proper credit with the use of APA style citation (APA resource link here).

  1. How does the chapter you read connect with what you already knew about the topic?
  2. What did the information in the chapter reveal about you as a learner and as an international graduate student studying in the US?
  3. Of the information you learned, what key concepts would you share with a new international graduate student preparing to study in the US. Why do you think this information would benefit this student?
  4. How will you use the information in the chapter to build your skills for future graduate success?

Assignment submission

Reflection papers should be typed, set in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced, and each paper should not exceed 800 words. You will need to save your document as a Word doc or PDF. Before you submit your work, be sure to proofread your paper for sentence structure and grammar errors as this is part of your grade.  To upload your document, please open the Reflection Paper assignment, add your file, and click the submit assignment button. As per the Syllabus, no late assignments will be accepted.

Protection of patient data has become a critical part of the scope of practice of all healthcare professionals. Routine data breaches underscore the importance of training clinical employees in protecting these data. However, beyond exposure to HIPAA regulations, little is done to educate the healthcare student about the risks and vulnerabilities of the online environment as it pertains to health data” (Swede, Scovetta, & Eugene-Colin, 2018). Search the peer-reviewed literature for examples of this. You may select any topic relating to technology that illustrates the potential for really messing things up. Include, in your description, an analysis of what might have caused the problems and potential solutions to them. Be sure to provide supporting evidence, with citations from the literature. It is not enough for you to simply create a own posting. You must read the postings of the other members of the class and comment on each of them. Please see Discussion Forum of the class syllabus for additional details on content.

Search “scholar.google.com” for a company, school, or person that has been the target of a network or system intrusion? What information was targeted? Was the attack successful? If so, what changes were made to ensure that this vulnerability was controlled? If not, what mechanisms were in-place to protect against the intrusion.

In this competency assessment, you will write a persuasive thesis statement that proposes a solution to a problem in your community or workplace and evaluate the effectiveness of that argument using the rhetorical situation and the rhetorical triangle.

In this competency assessment, you will write a persuasive thesis statement that proposes a solution to a problem in your community or workplace and evaluate the effectiveness of that argument using the rhetorical situation and the rhetorical triangle.

You will complete a worksheet for this course assessment.

Part I. In this section, you will create a persuasive thesis statement and identify the claim and underlying assumption in that thesis statement. Make sure the thesis is concise (1–2 sentences) and clearly expresses a persuasive argument that offers a solution to a problem.

Part II. In this section, describe your purpose, audience, and setting. You will provide details about whom you need to convince to bring about change and explain the community you are writing about.

Part III. In this section, you will evaluate your argument based on the three rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos). For Part III, be sure to use complete sentences and offer specific examples. Aim for 5-7 sentences per section.

 Healthcare Spending and Services

Healthcare data at a community, county, or region level and state level determine healthcare spending and services allocated for individuals. Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about these data as it will help you build a reality of costs of care for the healthcare system and beyond.

Research your own geographic region (town, city, county, or state) for data that is commonly used in health services systems. This includes census data, vital statistics data (birth, deaths, marriages, and divorces), surveillance data, administrative data, and survey research data. Keep in mind that most of this data will come from federal, state, or local offices that are federally mandated, but don’t stop there. You may find data in other surprising places.

Based on your readings and research, answer the following:

  1. Which office contains the health-related data identified above?
  2. How do people go about enrolling for Medicare and Medicaid in your community? Describe the eligibility requirements and costs, if any, for each of these types of subsidized care.
    • Coverage for acute care, including hospitalization
    • Coverage for preventive care
    • Outpatient services
    • Specialty services, such as mental health, rehabilitation, etc.

Healthcare Quality and Health Promotion and Prevention.

Discuss the role of quality in healthcare organizations. Evaluate the need for quality by answering the following questions:

What is quality in healthcare?

What are some of the ways quality is measured in healthcare?

Who is responsible for quality in healthcare?

Week 5 Discussion

Standard Performance Measures

Standard performance measures are a way of collecting data across similar functions, processes, costs, and providers. Benchmarking against these standards has proven to be useful in healthcare as a tool to measure many facets of quality. Carefully evaluating these measures allows for management to design appropriate programs to assist with healthcare service needs and patients to make decisions about facility and provider services. Best Doctors, Inc. and WebMD are examples of these tools. Your discussions will focus on the use of information from these websites to make healthcare decisions.

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about these measures and how they allow management to design appropriate programs to assist with healthcare service needs.

Based on your readings and research, answer the following:

  • Present a brief overview of the purpose for each of the Best Doctors, Inc. products. How are the “Best Doctors” of each type determined? Click here to visit the official Best Doctors website.

Next, click here to read a case study about Mary Jones.
