Discussion: Behavioral/Style Perspective to Leadership

What is needed today is an organizational culture of patient- and family-centered care. Creating a culture of patient- and family-centered care must be initiated and guided by ethical leadership. Only through the vision of ethical leadership will this change in culture be accomplished…The chief executive officer (CEO) and the board must believe that this culture change is imperative in the desire to become better in quality, safety, and satisfaction.

—Piper & Tallman, 2015, p. 63

submit a 1750 words paper on the topic Domestic Violence in Qatar

If there is no law prohibiting DV, then there could be no case even if the act exists. And if it cannot be prosecuted then the abuser cannot be prosecuted leaving the victim/s helpless. On the other hand, if the victim chooses to keep silent, criminalizing it would not matter. There can be no case without a complainant. In Qatar, women not only endure domestic abuse but worse they even justify it. They also hesitate to report such incidence neither they seek protection thinking about their family reputation3

How serious is the impact of domestic violence that would require a specific law against it? To be enlightened, this paper specifically seeks to answer the following questions: How is the family affected by domestic violence? Are families able to deal effectively with domestic violence? Why yes and why not? What more is available or should be available to assist families in dealing with domestic violence?

The National Development Strategy (NDS) reported that there is an increasing incidence of DV in Qatar since 2004 with 2,389 numbers of cases referred to as the Qatar Foundation for Child and Women Protection. Of these cases, 1,204 were perpetrated against children and 1,185 against women. However, these figures only speak of those reported cases. The number must be greater given the fact that Iraq has no systematic data collection plus the fact that most Qatari women prefer not to report the incident to safeguard their family reputation. The NDS furthered that the devastating economic and social costs of this gender-based violence negate Qatar’s goal to have all its citizens socially cared for and protected.4

An interview conducted with a family therapist as to the effects of DV showed its far-ranging adverse effects on families specifically on wives and children. Among those common emotional traumas that victims of DV usually undergo are depression, anxiety, panic attacks, substance abuse, and posttraumatic stress disorder. More than this, he also emphasized that abuse also results in more serious psycho-social problems like suicide attempts, psychotic episodes, homelessness, and slow recovery from mental illness.

Compose a 1500 words assignment on beautiful and the damned: portrait of new india by siddhartha deb

These were questions that Siddhartha Deb aimed to answer in his novel entitled “The Beautiful and the Damned: Portrait of New India”. Similar to Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”, Deb invited his readers to ponder on the darker side of progress and wealth in India by focusing on the terrible price that average Indians have to pay to reach ‘economic success’. Precisely, Deb argued that modernity in India is an ambiguous phenomenon—while there are obvious developments in the fields of information technology, economics, and business, the majority of middle-class Indians are still reduced to poverty. Indeed, the gap between the rich and the poor is widening. And this phenomenon, as Deb further pointed out, is wreaking a more profound effect on the common mindset of Indians. Capitalism and consumerism have borne a culture of pretense among Indians—of frantic and mindless pursuit of material ‘nirvana’.

By revisiting Deb’s distinct writing style, as well as examining the primary flow of his narrative, we intend to gather concrete evidence that will aid in better understanding his thesis. The findings that will be obtained in this phase will be used to study his philosophy in its entirely, and judge it according to the principles of ethics and social order.

Thus, we support Deb in his thesis that any economic and social development, when divorced from the basic principles of morality and ethics, or when it fails to uphold the dignity of the human person, may bring the course of human development into its unnerving downfall.

Deb’s writing style in this novel was heavily influenced by his background in broadcast journalism. Unlike past novelists like V.S. Naipul who had trouble representing the status quo of modern Indian society, Deb maintained the journalistic value of ‘upholding the truth’ in his novel. However, of course, he maintained a sense of creativity and originality in the way he told his story to the readers.&nbsp.In this sense, much of his reportage was done on significant areas in urban and rural Indian society.

Complete 2 pages APA formatted article: Social Mobility and Status Attainment.

. How open is American Society in terms of hierarchy? In an open social system of hierarchy, a person’s status is attainedthrough effort and merit as opposed to ethnicity, religion, gender or family background. The hierarchy in the American Society is open social stratification. In this system, social class is achieved by effort and merit, and there exists substantial social mobility between classes. The mobility comes in the form of education and opportunities. The American Society is divided into three social classes based on socioeconomic conditions namely upper, middle and lower classes. The upper class is made up individuals who own the means of production and by extension the private wealth of the country. The middle class is made up of media celebrities and other professionals such as local politicians, lawyers, doctors among others. The middle class comprises about half of the population. The lower class is made up of individuals who can hardly meet their basic needs. It is mainly made up of minority groups (Giddens et al. 135).

Define social mobility.

The dictionary of sociology defines social mobility as the ability of an individual or a household or a person to move either within a tier r across tiers of social hierarchy. The definition is usually associated with an open system of stratification. Individuals do not remain in the same social class. Rather they can move within sub-classes of a social class or from one class to another with variation in their occupation, wealth, and other social variables.

Discuss both downward and upward mobility.

Downward mobility is a type of vertical social mobility in which an individual moves from one upper class to a lower class. The movement is usually caused by marriage or changing jobs. High-level individuals convicted of a crime are liable to downward mobility. For example, Bernie Madoff moved from a powerful executive in Wall Street to a prison inmate.

Upward mobility is a type of vertical mobility that involves the movement of an individual from a lower social class to a higher one. Like downward mobility, upward mobility usually occurs when an individual changes jobs or gets married. An example of a person who experienced upward mobility is President Barrack Obama. He moved from a middle-class interracial couple’s child to become the President of US.(Giddens et al. 165 )

What do we mean by status?

Status in Sociology refers to the particular position occupied by an individual in a certain setting. It defines the social position of an individual relative to that occupied by others.

What is the industrial thesis?

The industrial thesis of status is that the employee society is a hierarchical system. The society is based on status and is ruled by status.

Can you go to the top and what can limit you?

It is not practically possible to go up the ladder to the top of the social class. There exist several impediments to upward social mobility. They include stereotypic perceptions, less education and training coupled with difficulty in accessing additional training, and low job perceptions especially for minority groups. An employee from a minority group is considered by his majority counterparts to have attained the position of power due to policy such as affirmative action and not on merit. Such factors limit an individual’s ability to go up to the top (Giddens et al. 173).

It is said that education is key to attaining status. is that true and if yes why do you think so and if not why do you think not?

Education is to a very great extent key to attaining status. Education is a cause as well as a consequence of status. The level of education an individual has attained defines the perception of the society concerning their social class relative to the level of education of others in the society. In addition, the level of education one gets to attain is dependent on their social class. Individuals with high status in the society can achieve higher levels of education compared to those in lower status (Giddens et al. 176).

What do we mean by intergenerational mobility?

Intergenerational mobility is the movement that occurs across social status for different generations of a given family. For example, President Obama’s movement from the social status of his multi-racial middle-class parents to becoming the president of the US represents intergenerational mobility (Giddens et al.184).

How does affirmative action affect status attainment and is affirmative action fair?

Affirmative action ensures that an individual’s personal characteristics are put into consideration in making decisions involving the individual. It ensures that each gets an equal access to opportunities they are qualified for regardless of their personal characteristics such as gender, race, and religious or political affiliation. Affirmative action provides individuals from minority groups in a society with an opportunity for upward mobility. It is fair because it gives individuals who would have otherwise missed an opportunity equal access to the opportunity.

Has affirmative action helped the poor and does education really help the poor?

Affirmative action has greatly helped the poor in the US. The impact of affirmative action can be seen from the increase in the number of students from minority groups such as women and people of color enrolling and graduating from colleges and universities. Education attained by the poor goes a long way in helping them to attain social status, resulting in intergenerational mobility. There however, exists numerous limitations to this effect.

Have status doors opened up for women and what things still block women’s attainment of higher status?

Status doors have opened for women. The number of women of high status has been on the increase over the years. Over 40% of individuals in the upper social class in the US are women. However, there are several things that block the attainment of higher status by women. They include stereotypes and preconceptions about women’s suitability for high positions of leadership, inflexible work schedules and the lack of programs that would enable women to balance their work and non-work responsibilities.

What things in society stand in the way of improved status for different groups and what are the causes for reduced status?

There are four main groups of people in the society depending on their level of years. In the foundation years stage, the already established and inherited variations in ability for children acts as an impediment to improved status. In the school years stage, the primary limitation is the environment and supportive factors in a child’s development of competencies. In the transition, years stage the main limitation is the choices made in transiting from education to jobs.in the adulthood stage the constraints are low qualifications and little incentives welfare systems. The major causes of reduced status among the groups include the lack of adequate fairness policy and the existence of challenges in implementation of policies to improve the status.

What are the social functions of stratification and are all societies stratified? Give a structural functionalist analysis and contrast it with a conflict theorist analysis of stratification. How would a social interactions view status attainment?

Social stratification exists in every society. It encourages hard work, promotes the circulation of elites, acts as an economic function, prevents resource waste and helps in the stabilization and reinforcement of attitudes and skills.

Functionalist analysis of social stratification contends that people’s actions are not always informed by economic self-interest. It further suggests that through hard work, people who want to succeed can achieve their objective. In contrast, conflict theorist analysis of stratification argues that capitalist economic competition by individuals gives unfair privileges to the rich. Those rich people have the power to promote an unfair system that functions to their gain.

A social interactions view of status attainment makes reference to social resource open to an individual that helps the individual to attain a given social status. It considers these resources as social capital to achieve a better status. In addition, it holds that the social capital is contingent on the initial position of the individual in the social hierarchies (Giddens et al. 233).

submit a 1250 words paper on the topic Culture and Communication in China.

My teacher assigned us a project related to the culture and tradition of China and we had a group discussion on the topic where we decided to create a presentation on the Chinese economy. Being a team member I played a key role in planning the procedure to carry out the entire research. The study of the Chinese economy offers us a scope to gather information regarding China’s growth prospects that would help us to prepare our presentation on China.

In my country, the homes are built in a manner that they are clustered together to fulfill the needs of an extended family. The first name is considered to be the personal name and the second name is that of the father’s name (Country reports, 2015). The number of rooms within the homes built in Kuwait increases according to the family sizes. As far as our food habits are concerned the people of Kuwait love to have a rich diet with no physical exercise. We eat around three meals a day. Since vegetables are unavailable in desert areas we largely depend on a non-vegetarian diet. Some of the Kuwaitis are still found to wear traditional Arabian clothes (Country reports, 2015). The people of Kuwait spend most of their time socializing with the family members. The official language that we Kuwaitis speak is usually known as modern standard Arabic (Country reports, 2015).

Our group manager suggested us to study about China by accessing various journals and books available in China. However, we had to plan our research within a stipulated time period and our group manager planned it in a well-organized fashion. My team comprised of members with good English speaking capability but since I am from Kuwait I did not have much knowledge about English and this is where I faced a communication gap with other team members. We carried out a study related to the culture and tradition of China which revealed that the local language of China that is Mandarin is spoken by around 70% of the people living in China.

The local people of China enjoy wearing traditional clothes.

Compose a 1250 words assignment on a city after a natural disaster named paradise island in hawaii

The year is now 2160 and much of the continental United States is now underwater. Many people were relocated to Paradise Island from the Western United States and Canada after the melting ice caps made sea levels rise and drove Vancouver and Seattle under the sea. As of yesterday, the population count was 1.5 million and the city is located entirely on the island of O’ahu. Life on the Island is not all that different from life on the mainland. As far as the city components are concerned, Paradise Island closely resembles any city that a person would find on the mainland, much like Manhattan, there is one single large park in the center of the city called the ‘Big Park’ which has a large lagoon that splits through the centre of it. There are also a number of public beaches near the sea. Surrounding the inner are terraced farmlands which move up the mountainsides on O’ahu.

Peppered throughout the city are a number of statues of American Presidents, which often are used as regional meeting places. On the North End of town, there is a large tower shaped like an obelisk. The structure stands out because it is the only building that does not have a solar panel or wind turbine on it.

In terms of Governance, the city is broken into 10 administrative districts surrounding the ‘Big Park’ which are responsible for providing education and emergency services however all other municipal functions are taken care of by the master boards (School Board, Board of Health, etc.) and by city hall. The education delivery method is still in traditional schools however in addition to regular classroom lectures, students engage in virtual education which has students put on a virtual reality helmet which helps deliver a more tailored lesson plan to the individual student’s needs.

Some of the major health issues facing the city are heat exhaustion and skin disorders (From overexposure).&nbsp.

Write 8 pages thesis on the topic importance of being on time in the u.s army.

. It is important to understand that habits a soldier develops while in training may likely be reflected in the battlefield when they have fully graduated to a soldier. If one develops the habit of going late for training this may happen during real combat. An instance may arise when soldiers, for example, needs backup team, since one was used in going late for training, they may also fail to realize it and turn up late and by the time that person turns up for the call, time is much spent. This is dangerous since the unit on the ground might be subdued owing to the fact the commander of the backup team, failed to appear on time. That is why it is important to be on time so that on develops and natures that culture for a soldier who exhibits this aspect of military life has high chances of surviving during combat.

Reporting on time is very important as it eases and reduces anxiety. This is because all soldiers are expected to report to their squad leaders. Through this reporting, the NCO and the rest of the command chain are able to ensure that all soldier is at the right place and time. If all soldiers appear on time, it will be easy to know which are missing and a follow up may be made to find out why they are missing. In doing so, it will be easy to find out if a soldier is missing or not. If one however does not appear on time, yet they are well, it may bring confusion and other soldiers may start wondering where the person is. Such confusion and frustrations are dangerous to the unit for failure to report to the leader may bring in the assumption of one is injured, hurt or has simply taken and AWOL (Akin, 4).

The formation that is usually done in the morning is one of the most important formations for that particular day. It is through this formation that the chain of command is able to know the missing soldier. If the soldier who is on the charge that particular day fails to&nbsp.provide a list of all soldiers, then he or she will have a lot of troubles and so will the chain of command. This is because. this morning formation enables higher command to assign duties to soldiers.&nbsp.

Write 4 pages thesis on the topic research paper. The factors that affect forestry and the significance of forests will be discussed in this paper. This paper will also tackle the different types of forests.

Forests are mostly dominated by trees amongst other plants. Some of the plants are tall and others are short. Most of the plants have features that help them adapt to the several conditions that are presented in the different types of forests (Green). Forests have sufficient amount of water. A majority of the forests receive sufficient amounts of rain that help in the growth of the plants and support the animals that live in the forests (Green). The rain water forms ponds and streams.

Forests offer great biodiversity due to the fact that it acts as a habitat to many habitants. The forest has several foods and shelters that support the habitants that reside in the various forests (Green).Forest canopy is a characteristic that is found in different forests (Green). The canopy differs in the different types of forests due to the fact that the nutrients found in forests differ.

Tropical forests are densely populated and are found near the equator. In this type of forests winter is not present and the temperatures are normally between 68 and 77 degrees. These forests receive mostly receive 100 inches of rain in a year. The soils found in the tropical forests are very poor due to the high levels of rain and warm temperature. The plants that grow in these types of forests are normally broad-leafed and the trees are normally very tall. Due to the huge density of the trees the sun doesn’t reach the lower levels of the forest. This forces the animals that live in these forests to adapt to living in the trees (Green).

These forests are normally found in eastern North America, northeastern Asia, parts of Russia, China, Japan, Western Europe and Eastern Europe. The trees that are found in these forests are normally deciduous and coniferous evergreen trees.
