Write 5 pages with APA style on The Volunteerism and Community Service.

When I witnessed the American Red Cross activities as a volunteer, my aim in mind was to make a difference by helping fellow Americans. When I completed the ten-hour volunteer work, little, did I know that it was just a glimpse of a wonderful life of volunteerism? I wanted to transform the ten hours into days, or months, or years. My life was transformed by the short time I experienced in the Red Cross.

Journal for the ten-volunteer hours with the American Red Cross

The first day in my new “job” began with a short orientation. First, I reported to the local office and asked for the person in charge of volunteers. I introduced myself to the designated volunteer supervisor, who was too accommodating to provide me with valuable information about volunteerism in the Red Cross. Ms. Claire, the supervisor, asked me to fill up a volunteer form. After that, she briefed me about the jobs of a volunteer.

The orientation took place at around nine o’clock in the morning on that peaceful and clear Monday. My request for ten volunteer hours was a short period, but she said that my time could be distributed into a week where I would be able to acquire knowledge and information about volunteerism and the various activities in the organization. We were ten new volunteers, whom Ms. Claire welcomed individually with a hug. She said that we would be given orientation and ‘tour’ and other special training for volunteers.

My first day of the week provided me a glimpse of what we would do as volunteers and what the Red Cross has done as an organization. My job was mostly on knowing what the Red Cross has done and can do in times of calamities and disasters. We could not do much as volunteers due to the short time allotted for us, but we could assist in the work being done in the office and orient ourselves in the staff’s various training.

On my second day, I was given a task that I believed was very fruitful in that short time of volunteer work. Ms. Claire asked me if I would like to assist with the babysitting activity, one of the training programs provided by the American Red Cross. My job was to assist the instructor in the training program, Ms. Smith, a retired nurse who has dedicated her life to volunteer work. Ms. Smith gave me a short orientation about babysitting. The training was a fruitful experience. I was allotted one-and-half hours for the training, but I extended it for another half an hour because I felt that the time was not enough. Babysitting is a very honorable and humane job. It trains us to become parents.

Write 2 pages with APA style on The ghosts of Rwanda

Teacher The ghosts of Rwanda The film The ghosts of Rwanda is a gut wrenching documentary about the Rwandan genocide in 1995 particularly in the opening scene where dead bodies were shown to illustrate the magnitude of the conflict. The documentary was able to catch the human misery and drama during the Rwandan genocide in the mise-en-scene introduction of the film that told the extent of the violence waged by the Hutus and Tutsis against each other. It was so revolting that the Rwandan genocide is recorded in history as one of the most brutal genocide and also cited the indifference of the world as it just stood by and let the whole atrocity happen.

The story was told both by the victims and the perpetrators as well as the third parties who were supposed to stop the genocide but did not do enough. The details of the horror of the genocide was encapsulated in the scene when a Tutsi woman who appealed to the Belgian journalists to take her and her companion with them to escape the attack of the Hutus. The shame of not doing enough when something could have been done was also encapsulated by an American diplomat who said that it was America’s bad taste not to do enough when people were being massacred. General Romeo Dallaire Commander of the UN Peacekeeping Mission also regretted that 800,000 people died in the genocide that he cannot find solace with the statement that he tried his best. Kofi Anan, the UN Secretary General during that time was also one of the resource person for the interview but his reaction portrayed the indecisiveness of the UN as he advised General Dallaire not to engage when it was already apparent that the Hutus are bent on sabotaging the peace process. He even advised to share intelligence with the Hutu dominated government who was bent on ending the peace process.

The information and probably the lasting impact that the film left to its audience is how ugly and atrocious genocide and extremism is. The killing spree used not only guns but also machetes that spared no one including the Prime Minister. It was so barbaric that the Rwandan genocide in 1995 will probably go down in history as one of the most revolting civil war in mankind’s history. The films that ethnic hatred, when go unchecked can go on a killing spree killing even the highest official in the land (Rwandan President’s plane was shot by a missile and the Prime Minister attacked in her home despite UN security forces). And probably, one of the information given by the film that is as revolting as genocide is the racism exercised by the Belgian forces during the height of the genocide. When the Hutu militia broke loose in killing everyone, it was only western people who are white skinned that was evacuated by the Belgian military. They were under orders not to evacuate ordinary Rwandans no matter how they pleaded for their life that an American diplomat had to say that this left a bad taste in their policy because thousands were killed.

Until now, the Rwanda Genocide in 1995 is always cited when the brutality of genocide is discussed. It goes down in infamy for its brutality, particularly in making machetes famous in hacking people to death and the sickening thought that the whole world just watched and did not do enough to stop the genocide.

write an article on learning as a lifetime experience Paper must be at least 1250 words

Throughout my life, I continue to encounter numerous experiences, which significantly affect my perception and understanding of the occurrences in life. Through these experiences, I have learned numerous things that have enriched my life immensely. Though some occurred subconsciously, others were instigated discussions held between myself and friends.

While discussing various lifetime experiences with my friends, something I had always ignored occurred. My friend informed me of the inherent discrepancies present between environments where people grow up. The friend informed me of how he grew in a Muslim dominated society, and the difficult experiences he underwent as a Christian. With a majority of the people being Muslims, the childhood friends failed to understand the faith professed by my friend. The discrepancies in the fundamental teachings of the faiths caused numerous difficulties between the children professing different faiths. The children viewed each other as enemies creating immense tension and difficulty in creating friendships among children professing different faiths. After growing up, my friend’s understanding of the Islamic faith enabled him to appreciate individuals professing the faith.

My friend explained the various elements of the Islamic faith which caused the perception change. The discovery that a majority of the doctrines contained in the religions remain common across the religions was surprising. Through the explanation offered, I also gained an immense understanding of the Islamic religion. Although numerous accusations continue regarding the association of the Islamic faith with terrorism, stereotyping could be explained as the causing element for these accusations. The fact that there are quite many terrorists associated with the Islamic faith should not be a benchmark for all Muslims, terrorists. Stereotypical thinking with a limited understanding of Islamic faith leads to fallacious conclusions regarding religion.

As a child, I had also held this populist belief as true. My understanding of the Islamic religious doctrines displayed the religion as modeling terrorist.

prepare and submit a paper on presenting to peers.

Additionally, as with any audience, the classroom audience appreciates clarity and brevity. Often, a number of students deliver presentations during one class. The ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner when presenting can add impact and interest for the audience. Conversely, presenters who ramble and provide extraneous detail can make a presentation boring and ponderous. Like knowing the audience, the appropriate level of detail presented in a clear and concise manner is critical to delivering a memorable and insightful message.

Skills applied in the classroom translate to any presentation setting, and can be a critical part of success in the business world. Particularly in a classroom setting, one should know one’s audience and understand the level detail needed for effective delivery of the material. Clarity and conciseness are vital to successful presentation and the presenter should tailor the delivery of the message to the unique audience in attendance as much as possible.&nbsp.&nbsp.

Provide a 6 pages analysis while answering the following question: The Rise of Universities in Medieval Europe. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide

On the one hand, a university represented a traditional craft-type corporation (Universitas), which brought together people of a specific occupation type.&nbsp.At the same time, the internal organization of universities hold quite an unusual, for that sort of corporation, position – it was given the certain features of republicanism: all full-fledged “citizens” had the right to elect and be elected to various university positions.

According to some researchers, the earliest university in Medieval Europe was the one in Salerno.&nbsp.It was developing based on the oldest medical school of Salerno, the first mention of which dates back to 197 A.D. The Hippocratic community (Civitas Hippocratica), which existed there, preserved and developed the best of the ancient medical heritage.&nbsp.Salerno medical school, as one of the largest educational centers, was known until 1812.&nbsp.However, it did not become a university.&nbsp.Mainly, because the school did not teach on the same high level (as medicine) all the remaining subjects.&nbsp.

The named above reason accounts for the fact that it’s considered that the most ancient European universities are the ones in Bologna, which was founded at the end of the 11th century, and Paris, the 12th century.&nbsp.The named universities, although formed almost simultaneously, differed in their internal structure and epitomized the two main types of universities in Medieval Europe.&nbsp.The first (Bologna) university developed as the major center for the study of Roman law in Western Europe.&nbsp.According to contemporaries,&nbsp.in the&nbsp.early 13th century, more than&nbsp.10&nbsp.thousand people&nbsp.from all over&nbsp.Europe studied in&nbsp.Bologna.&nbsp.

The famous Bolognese&nbsp.professors&nbsp.had so many&nbsp.listeners&nbsp.that had&nbsp.to lecture&nbsp.outside, in the streets.&nbsp.Almost&nbsp.all the languages&nbsp.of Europe were&nbsp.represented there.&nbsp.The university became&nbsp.known as a global one.&nbsp.It was Bologna, where&nbsp.for the first time, appeared the&nbsp.so-called fraternities.&nbsp.It grew up based on urban secular schools (School of Glossators) and was the organization of students.&nbsp.This means that the student guilds arrogated to themselves the right to manage the entire process of university life.

prepare and submit a term paper on Domestic Violence Policy. Your paper should be a minimum of 1250 words in length.

Based on this, there has been the formulation of policies and reforms to safeguard potential victims (Davis, 1998, p. 43).

In Victoria, Australia, there has been an increase in the rate of domestic violence and statistics show an increase in homicide rates. As a result, there are calls for a review of domestic violence policy to determine what can be done to reduce such occurrences across the country. According to the opposition, the ruling party should not wait further so that it can act, if possible, a review of the laws should begin immediately. Such a duty will be left to the royal commission whose mandate will include a close examination of domestic violence and all the factors that affect it. These include health services, alcohol, education, criminal systems, and the courts. Of all these factors, alcohol stands out strongly as the leading cause of violence within homes. Statistics from a survey throughout Victoria, results show that in households where both or one of the couples took alcohol, the chances of domestic violence occurring was 53%. It was established that alcohol consumption blurred their thinking and left them very agitated, as such, they were more likely to be abusive to those around them. The commission will receive professional assistance from survivors and several support providers who have experience in dealing with such issues. According to the proposed chair of the panel, the judicial system has been lenient on domestic violence offenders and it was about time the Labor party made the appropriate changes to prevent the spread of this vice. He said the focus of the panel would be to deal with the matter while focusing on the causative factors. it is from this perspective that the relevant policies can be formulated (Pleck, 2007, p. 50).

However, statistics from Victorian courts show a different side to the domestic violence issue. Court documents prove that the rate of domestic violence has gone down over the last three years and prosecutions are few (Dutton, 2006, p. 77). Judges clarify that they have been strict on offenders in the recent past and, as a result, very few people are willing to bear with the consequences.

submit a 1500 words paper on the topic Water is the Foundation of Life.

&nbsp. The rage of water in the climate through rain, hurricanes, and tsunamis provides context for its management. Even sitting perfectly still in the clutches of water through sitting on a boat is not enough to give any sense that water is not in control. Water controls the world, whether or not the established authorities intend to create a more stable environment. Water has a power that can be harnessed in part but never fully appreciated for its destruction or the immensity of its quantity. &nbsp.

&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp. Illich discusses water in terms of its social identity as a symbol of purity and cleansing. He suggests that water always is a substance of duality and that one of the most potent dualities that it has is in its purity and cleansing properties. Cleansing is of prime importance to Illich as he discusses how water can “detach what sticks to people” (27). It can be said that water is a lubricant that can divide as much as it can bring together, the substance coming between the body and impurities to wash them away, as much as it can be the great equalizer in which what flows past and through one body is destined to continue to flow through all bodies. Patton says of purity that “Religious notions of purity and pollution, particularly for oceangoing or shoreline peoples, chronically regard the sea as the most powerful vehicle for catharsis” (140). The idea of water is associated with washing away troubles and providing a clean surface to make new or continue.

&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp.&nbsp. In both the religious and the context of the commons, water represents cleanliness. As baptism takes place in many churches, the recipient is sometimes sprinkled, sometimes dunked into the water to enjoy water’s purification ritual. In baptism, the individual washes away the past to reveal a new future dedicated to faith. From a more practical standpoint, water represents a city that does not stagnate in its decay. The emergence of city plans with water systems is one of the more essential elements of creating a well-organized city. Water is placed with dreams for Illich, who writes that they “make(s) the city work” (3). Therefore, it can be seen that water can be used through both the ritualization of its use and through commonality that is sustained in the development of a clean and well-run city. Cleansing is both a religious ritual and practical application of the idea of the use of water.

Write 5 pages thesis on the topic effects of text messaging on teen literacy

Mobile phones have made a huge impact on how people communicate. Nowadays, teenagers no longer use their phones to make calls to their family and friends, they use text messaging (Coe and Oakhill).

The use of text messaging services has grown rapidly since the year 1992 when the first text message was sent. In the year 2011, sixty percent of people from all over the globe were active in text messaging. this is a mind-blowing 4.2 billion people. Teenagers form the largest share of text message users, and this has created concern for parents, teachers, and linguists who claim that texting has affected the student’s schoolwork. In the United States, teachers are of the belief that students are making countless mistakes in essays and other writing assignments because of the abbreviation language style common in text messages. Pew Internet and the American Life Project found in their survey that sixty-four percent of teenagers have admitted to using some text messaging abbreviation style in academic writing (Coe and Oakhill).

Texting has positive and adverse impacts on the literacy skills of students. Educators claim that texting has adverse effects on the writing skills of their pupils. The issue of text messaging on teen literacy has received a lot of attention over the years. It is now common that “textisms” have adverse effects on teenage literacy, but some studies have shown that they have positive effects depending on the situation they are employed in. With much of the media attention being directed on the adverse impact of texting, some studies have shown that texting has positive effects on the students. One study showed that the more the abbreviated words were in use, the more the verbal reasoning tended to be. The study showed a clear relation between textism and verbal reasoning. Another study conducted on British students revealed that proficient literacy skills were used to decipher text messages. this shows that text messaging is leading to the development of literacy skills in teenagers. According to Drouin and Davis, text messages are associated with emoticons, acronyms and removing excess grammar and spelling parts.

write an article on aircraft systems Paper must be at least 3250 words

Besides, all these active and highly efficient sensory system, modern aircraft are equipped with state-of-the-art, machine vision and artificial intelligence-based versatile and robust systems. All the sensors and actuators used in the navigation panel of the pilot cabin work efficiently due to the CAT (computerized adaptive testing) system. This system is capable of generating a more robust and optimal solution to a problem faced by the navigation system. This system makes the airplanes more autonomous and is capable of communicating and helping pilots in unexpected situations. CAT systems are not only capable of providing output but are also provided with built in intelligence to study all the active parameters and provide an intelligent response to the pilot.

Above is the view of a typical electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) used in modern aircraft (Skybrary, 2013). In older aircraft, these EFIS were based on CRTs but with the advent of advances in electronics and CAT systems, more sophisticated EFIS was on demand. Therefore, the above shown EFIS is primarily based on liquid crystal display technology which makes the instrument display system a very colorful panel.

For the safe operational landing of commercial aircraft, an approaching aircraft gets guidance by the instrument of landing. This operation relates to the modulation of depth comparisons. Many recent aircraft use Autopilot systems to locate signals from these beams. The instrument of landing in most airports consists of a Glideslope and localizer. A localizer measures the difference in depth of modulation. Measurement of this depth relates to diverse pairs of directional antennas. A localizer refers to an array of antennas located beyond the point of departure of the airport. It provides lateral guidance to aircraft. Typically the system consists of two signals transmitted on one instrument landing system.&nbsp. One of the signal modulations is at 150Hz and 40Hz.

prepare and submit a term paper on Nephew Deployment to IRAQ. Your paper should be a minimum of 250 words in length.

Nephew deployment to IRAQ Affiliation: “My beloved nephew Charlie of the nephew), military personnel present, family members, all distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon. Today is both a happy and sad day for me because I have to say goodbye to my beloved nephew who is being deployed for army duties in Iraq. It is sad to say farewell because we are not sure whether we will meet again and if so when that will be.

Charlie’s devotion to his work is what I believe has made his superiors decide to deploy him to Iraq to join his fellow servicemen to serve this country. I, therefore, have no doubt in my mind and am sure most of the family members will agree to this that Charlie will not let anyone down. He will continue upholding his values and do the country proud.

When you go out there Charlie, remember the other servicemen are your brothers and sisters. Take good care of them and always be the peacemaker and uniting factor. Obey your superiors as they know what is best for you. Above all, remember to pray to the almighty for protection and strength to move on despite everything that may be facing you out there in the foreign land. Never make any hasty decisions that may compromise your safety or that of your colleagues. We will be with you in spirit and prayers and may God grant you the necessary protection and wisdom. Take good care of yourself son, we are proud of you and we will miss you terribly. God bless you, my dear nephew.
