3. Present Mill’s ‘best policy’ argument in support of free speech. Why does he think that we should adopt a near absolute rule regarding free speech and expression?  How does he distinguish between ‘self-regarding’ acts and ‘other-regarding’ acts?  What counts as ‘harm’ for Mill?  How would Mill view microaggressions, hate speech, de-platforming, and compelled speech?

4. Critically evaluate the hacker slogan “information wants to be free” in the context of two of the following: intellectual property, privacy, free speech, and security.   Should information be “free” in terms of price and/or accessibility? Referencing the authors and articles we have covered this term give an argument in support of your view.

Week 3 DiscussionDiscussion Topic Task: Reply to this topic Due December 17 at 10:59 PM

The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered.

For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.

To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use outside sources. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Complete your participation for this assignment by the end of the week.

Qualitative Approaches

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about qualitative approaches. Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Analyze and describe any two types of qualitative research methods.
  • Recommend in which situations, qualitative research methods can be used in public health research.
  • Explain the advantages and disadvantages of qualitative as well as quantitative research.
  • Analyze and explain why qualitative research and mixed methodologies are given preference over quantitative methodology in most cases of public health research.
  • Is it true that the value of the dependence of qualitative research on small samples renders it incapable of generalizing conclusions? Why?
  • Describe the key fundamental differences between experimental and quasi-experimental designs. Provide at least one example of each experimental design that identifies the situations in which the experimental design can be used.
  • Analyze and explain whether there are any possible ethical issues associated with each of these experimental designs in the field of public health research. If yes, what are they? If no, why?

Proposal

The attached advertisement is for a business that my wife is contemplating. After I retire from the military, she would start it once we settle down in a particular location. My wife is a registered and certified dietitian. She also has multiple fitness certifications. I would use the knowledge I gained from my studies at Grantham to assist her with the company’s business aspects. Fit and Nourished Life is a health and wellness consulting firm. The staff is composed of registered dietitians who are also certified as fitness coaches. The company services a spectrum of clients from individuals to businesses.

Missio

Fit and Nourished Life provides a diverse array of clients with solutions for healthy & sustainable change through personalized design for life’s fitness and wellness goals.

Business Strategy

Fit and Nourished Life follows a broad differentiation business strategy. Gyms offer personal trainers that provide the client with coaching on fitness, but the client often receives little advice on diet. Additionally, the typical personal trainer is not certified to provide in-depth and personalized dietary advice and nutrition therapy. Additional limitations occur when the client has special dietary needs due to a chronic disease such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Fit and Nourished Life differs itself from personal training services by providing comprehensive consulting services on nutrition and exercise in the form of a partnership with the client that is supportive, not judgmental. The Fit and Nourished Life experience starts with a consultation on the client’s health desires, including an inventory of the client’s food interests and exercise likes and dislikes. A Fit and Nourished Life consultant will show the client how to shop for and prepare the food needed for the appropriate diet to reach their fitness goals. Monthly counseling sessions will determine the progress and changes required.

Marketing Strategy

The advertisement that accompanies this proposal is just one method that Fit and Nourished Life will use to reach the community. The company’s marketing strategy consists of several other ways to gain exposure. The first marketing method includes establishing partnerships with local physicians to gain referrals. Another way the company will gain exposure is by participating in or hosting health fairs in the community. The company will also provide educational events at local schools along with offering free webinars. A key initiative in the marketing plan is the creation of collaborative partnerships with local gyms.

IN 300 WORDS

Discuss your thoughts on the innovation plan and if you feel it will be a success.

In 300 WORDS  provide suggestions to the company developer on what they could do to ensure the plan could be successfully implemented. Be sure to include real-world examples and follow up with outside research.

Review the section on Asch’s Research from your textbook. Describe why the individuals in the Asch experiment usually gave the same answer when they probably knew that it was wrong. How do social control and social bonding explain conformity?

Week 4 DiscussionDiscussion Topic Task: Reply to this topic Due December 24 at 11:59 PM

During this fourth week, we are examining why most people tend to conform in most of their social interactions, while others deviate from the existing social norms. After you have read the reading assignment and lecture for this week, please respond to all parts of the discussion by the due date assigned:

  • Review the section on Asch’s Research from your textbook. Describe why the individuals in the Asch experiment usually gave the same answer when they probably knew that it was wrong. How do social control and social bonding explain conformity?
  • While the pressure to conform is intense, people continue to deviate. Using either Merton’s Strain Theory or Becker’s Labeling Theory, explain why some people choose to become deviant.
  • Finally, major crimes occur in our society. Pick a current event (local or national) and describe the crime. Analyze the crime in terms of Durkheim’s four major functions of deviance.
