Introduction:

There have been a high number of arguments to decide whether or not death penalties are an effective manner of punishing people. There have been a number of questions that have been raised which include questions like, if an unnatural death is classified to be wrong, then doesn’t execution also classify to be incorrect, or is it a double standard that two wrongs make a right? Several questions both for and against the topic have been asked over the years. This paper aims at discussion two such views and providing a personal opinion on the matter as well.

Yes! Death Penalty Is Effective:

The society is one which requires deeply and desperately at all times, a capital punishment. If not for the punishment, there would have been a much higher level of murders across the world. Without the capital punishment, the population would tend to use, ‘mob mentality’ in situations where the emotions get out of hand. There are a number of cases, both simple as well as more intense where people have lost their lives and it is important to note that without the prevalence of a death penalty, there would not be any deterrent to murder. If a person was simply to be locked in jail with complete access to food, clothes, and shelter without having to earn it, then people would take this option and would never worry about murdering anyone (Davis, 1998). In simple terms, our society is filed with a number of criminals and is not civilized enough to manage without a clear set down deterrent for the crime. Hence, it is necessary for the death penalty to be applied to ensure a safer society.

No! Death Penalty Is Not Effective:

A number of experts have also pointed their views to the ineffectiveness of the death penalties and have also brought out the fact that in spite of the death penalties that are being used within the countries, there are still a number of people who tend to do the crime. The process of giving the death penalty is a long one with the criminals living comfortably in prison and this to a great extent tends to reduce the effectiveness of a death penalty. As a deterrent, it is important that the criminals are not given a chance and are executed right away to make the punishment a successful one (Dieter, 1998). However this clearly is not possible considering the number of laws and regulations that need to be considered before giving a person a death sentence, thereby making this method ineffective and inefficient.

Personal Views:

I personally believe that the death penalties are a very effective method of conducting the society and criminals that have committed murder. This is mainly because, the punishment in a way deterrent to murder. The world is a beautiful place, however the truth is that people are not civilized enough to control their feelings and emotions, and at all times need a law or regulation keeping them in place (Tucker, 2004). Hence considering the severity of the crime, it is essential that a severe punishment where the offender will need to pay with their own life in return for the life they take. Hence I believe that this is a very effective method of dealing with a crime as serious as murder.

Conclusions:

In conclusion, it is clear that there are a number of views on this topic. however, it is essential to note that criminals across the world are looking for a chance to commit a crime, and the use of a death penalty where the penalty is carried out immediately will prove to be a very effective manner of deterring the crime rate. Hence in conclusion, it is safe to say that the death penalties are effective and can be improved if the laws include a policy of, ‘convict and carry out’. This will help ensure the effectiveness of the punishment.

They were greatly involved in the textile industry since they were traditionally able to perform this job-based in their homes. However, when they would get married, these women would leave their jobs for domestic work. In the United States, women were working in approximately one hundred and seventy-five diverse professions by 1850. In this group, most women engaged in occupations that were extensions of their traditional domestic roles for instance spinning, food processing as well as clothing manufacture. In addition, twenty-five percent of the workers who worked in factories in the United States were unmarried women (McLaughlin, 1). The First World War was another significant opportunity for women to prove their capability in the workforce. During this war, most men left vacant positions as they went for war. This provided an opportunity for women who took up these positions. In England for example, approximately two million women replaced men at their jobs during World War 1. Some of these jobs were areas that women may have filled prior to the war, for instance, clerical jobs. This also affected the types of positions that women filled. Some women were engaged in employment in the transportation sector, engineering as well as hospitals (Wilde, 2). There were also dramatic changes in the American labor force during the Second World War just as during the First World War, men left their jobs to become soldiers and women filled these positions. During this time, these women majored in the production and manufacture of weapons and other machines for the war (Bascom, 2). Fascinating statistics indicate that the number and percentage of women in the workforce constantly grow to date.&nbsp

Alcoholism, and its physical and mental impacts, alter behaviors in the regular drinker which create family-wide disruption and conflict. Previously-important family rituals are shattered, financial problems arise, child neglect occurs, as well as a multitude of possible impacts. This research project identifies alcoholism in the family and the impact on family lifestyle.

One author describes the family structure as one in which specific job roles are assumed by various family members, with one as chief caretaker, another as the family expert, the master distractor, and many other family roles (Cole, 2000: 27). These job descriptions are generally held for long periods of time and work as the foundation of the family structure. In the situation where alcoholism factors into the family dynamic, outcomes of behavioral changes can include domestic violence, marital discord, sexual abuse, suicide, poverty and even medical problems (Athanasiadis, 2003. Cooper, 2001).

The linkage between alcoholism and behavioral changes would explain the wide variety of aforementioned family outcomes as the social dynamic changes. The alcoholic, if they were the traditional caretaker, is suddenly the family member requiring help. The family expert, if acting as the family alcoholic, is suddenly unable to provide the guidance or swift fix-it mentality which the family had come to previously rely on. Marital discourse would be the most obvious outcome of strained spousal relationships if one or the other is unable to receive the rewards of their partner’s job role functions in the family due to altered behaviors.&nbsp.

Client is a 17 year old African American male that presented for a Comprehensive Assessment to determine eligibility for services. Though biologically male, she has socially transitioned and prefers to be addressed as Charmaine. The client identifies as a female. Her outward appearance was that of a teenage female. Present at the assessment was foster parent. During the assessment, client was argumentative with foster parent and disrespectful; indicating she did not want to come for services. Client reports she has no issues. She is resistant to available resources.

Information gathered was obtained from other records and the foster mom. The client engages in disruptive behaviors and these behaviors have been evident for an extended period of time. Client recently moved to this foster placement. Client’s history is significant for multiple placement changes. She was adopted at approximately the age of four (4) and was placed in DSS custody at age 16. Prior to a request to have the client moved from the former placement, the client cut her genitals (scrotum) with a razor, requiring fifteen (15) stitches to close the wound. The client reports that it was a “shaving accident” and her hand slipped when she was trying to shave her legs.  When asked about consideration for a gender reassignment, client responded she was unsure. Documents indicate she has discussed previously.

It has been reported that the client is overtly defiant with adult authority figures, and often responds with attempts to engage others in verbal arguments. She has shown a pattern of poor emotional regulation. The client has been involved with mental health services for an extended period of time and she has struggled with behaviors and interpersonal interactions. Her problematic interpersonal interactions are often triggered by being unable to obtain her immediate wants, and this poor impulse control often leads to emotional displays of anger and frustration, and they often interfere with her ability to maintain a positive interaction with others.

Client’s history is significant for multiple traumas-abuses and neglects in the biological home, struggles to acclimate and the adoptive home and subsequent discharge to DSS custody. It is reported that client’s biological parents have history for alcohol and drugs, mental illness and general instability.

The client has been provided extensive mental health services ranging from outpatient services to those requiring a secure residential facility. Documents indicate client has made threats of suicidal ideation and threats of homicidal intent (threatened to poison her adopted mother) but she denies.

The client resides currently with a foster parent. Her biological mother was killed by her aunt. Her father was recently released from prison and resides in a halfway house in Ohio.

What was the client’s diagnosis? Gender Dysphoria in Adolescents and Adults, Borderline Personality Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Combined presentation

The client has been involved with DSS at different times in her life, beginning with being removed from her biological family, post-legal adoption services, and recently being returned to foster care. The client has been involved in the legal system due to her stealing a vehicle from a previous residential placement, the illegal use of stolen credit cards, and attempting to drive herself to Ohio. She was involved with DJJ and placed on probation, and per reports she has successfully met the requirements of her probation. Recently, her foster parent reported she made a prank ransom call to her sibling, which garnered police involvement. No charges were filed.

Client reports she has registered to take CNA classes.

Client denies any traumatic events, including the death of her mother. Reports indicate she has suffered abuse and neglect.

Client reports she has a good relationship with her sibling and they communicate often. They live in other states. Documentation indicates that the client often engage in social isolation from peers, and had limited friendships and peer interpersonal interactions

Biological family has history of psychiatric and chemical dependency.

Documentation indicates that the client’s mother may have abused drugs and alcohol during her pregnancy with the client, but there is no definitive proof of such exposure. In addition, it is reported that the client was deaf until the age of four (4) years old, at which time she underwent a surgery that drastically improved her hearing abilities.

Documents indicate client has made threats of homicidal intent (threatened to poison her adopted mother) but she denies.
