English Essay needed 12/09/14 3pm

Develop an essay response (750 words) to ANY AND ONLY ONE of the following topic/questions. LABEL YOUR ANSWER, SO THAT IT IS CLEAR WHICH TOPIC/QUESTION YOU ARE RESPONDING TO. Take your time so that you can produce a polished final product, but DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. (In other words, don’t wait until the last minute to prepare and submit your essay. It just won’t work!) Provide a title and a well-organized introductory paragraph for your essay, which should be written in formal academic prose (in other words, not a personal essay). Do not use the first-person singular, contractions, colloquialisms, or direct address; always provide appropriate transitions. An effective tactic is to re-word the actual topic in that introductory paragraph, so that it becomes a thesis statement. As you then go on make a case defending the position that you have taken, be sure to use supporting evidence from the text(s) for each point that you wish to make. A summarizing conclusion should round things out.

Technical Project “Designing VB Applications Across Multiple Platforms”
This assignment will contain two (2) Parts: Written Paper and Visual Basic Prototype. The Visual Basic Prototype is not included in the total page count but is included in the evaluation of your assignment. You must submit both parts for the completion of this assignment.

Imagine you are a senior systems architect who has recently been given the task to develop a personal calendar system across multiple Microsoft platforms. You will develop a technical paper and Visual Basic prototype to senior management for project acceptance.

The personal calendar system runs on the following area:

  • Windows XP and Windows 7 (desktop)
  • Web IIS (Web browser)

You have also been asked to implement VB best practices to help improve the efficiency of solving IT issues that end users frequently experience. Your first task is to ensuring a consistent look across each platform.

Part 1: Written Paper

 1. Write a five to seven (5-7) page paper in which you:

  a. List and describe three (3) naming conventions and programming conventions that you can implement to help improve the software design across multiple platforms.

  b. Develop a calendar and scheduling system that:

    i. Runs with Windows 7 and sync data.

ii. Runs with Web application access.

iii. Includes at least two (2) supplemental graphical renderings of best practice methods through the use of Excel, Visio, MS Project, or one of their equivalents such as Open Project, Dia, and OpenOffice (flowcharts, process diagrams, tables, etc.). Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.

  c. Use Microsoft Office as an example of common screen design. Word and Excel have very similar looks when you want to save a file. Your design should have a similar concept. HUM215 M2A2 – Analyzing World Cultures

Assignment 2: Analyzing World Cultures

Media play a very large role in both the development and the perpetuation of cultural elements. You may never have watched a foreign movie or even clips evaluating other cultures. In this assignment, you will explore online videos or movies from a culture of your choice and analyze how cultural elements are presented, compared to your own culture.

Complete the following:

  • Choose a world culture you are not familiar with.
  • Identify two–three online videos or movies representative of this culture. These could be examples of cultural expressions such as a Bollywood movie from India or Anime videos from Japan.

Evaluate two hours of such a video. Using the readings for this module, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research articles about your selected culture.

  • Select a scholarly article that analyzes the same culture presented in the videos you have observed.
  • Write a paper describing the cultural differences you have observed in the video. How are these observations supported by the research article?

Be sure to include the following:

  • Describe the videos you have watched.
  • Explain the main points of the videos.
  • Examine what stood out about the culture.
  • Compare and contrast the similarities and differences of this culture with your own.
  • Examine the ways of this culture. Is it one you would want to visit or live in?
  • Would you experience culture shock if you immersed yourself in this culture? Why or why not?

Support your statements with examples and scholarly references.

Write a 2–3-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M2_A2.doc.

By Week 2, Day 7, deliver your assignment to the M2: Assignment 2 Dropbox.

part A

  1. In the late 1960s, Milton Friedman and Edmund Phelps argued that there was not a structural relationship between inflation and unemployment rates.  In particular, the trade off could only exist in the short -run.

a)     (10 points) The tradeoff between unemployment and inflation was much discussed throughout the 1960s as there appeared to be a clear tradeoff between unemployment and inflation. In fact, we traced out the Phillips curve beginning in the  early 1960s and continuing through the end of the decade.  In the space below, recreate the Phillips curve that we constructed in the lectures, being sure to label diagram completely.  At minimum, you should have unemployment / inflation combinations for 1961, 1962, 1964, 1966, and 1969.  Connect the dots and we have the tradeoff between unemployment and inflation during the 1960s, aka, the Phillips curve.

b)     (10 points) Now explain why the Phillips curve that you constructed can only be a short-run phenomenon at best.  In particular, explain exactly why, as we went through the decade of the 1960s, we continuously move up and to the northwest along the Phillips curve…. from relatively high rates of unemployment and low inflation to relatively low rates of unemployment and high rates of inflation.  In your answer, make sure discuss the short run aspect of this curve and why, in the long-run, the Phillips curve is vertical (hint: expected inflation, unexpected inflation, actual real wages, and expected real wages should be a big part of your explanation).

  1. In this question, we are going dig deeper into the Taylor Rule and it variants (modifications).  You will need the following links to answer the following questions. Note, each link takes you to a page where right above the graph on left, there is a “download data in graph” tab – click on it and that will give you access to the data you need.

NAIRU                                                                                                                GDP Growth

PGE                                                                                                                     Inflation PCE core

Unemployment Rate                                                                              Inflation PCE

Effective Federal Funds Rate

As Taylor assumed, we assume the equilibrium real rate of interest, r* = 2% and the optimal inflation rate, the target inflation rate is also equal to 2%.

a)     (10 points) Using the ‘standard’ Taylor rule with Inflation PCE (not the core), and using end of 2011 data (2011-10-01) what is the federal funds rate implied by the ‘standard’ Taylor Rule?  According to the actual federal funds rate (use the Effective Federal Funds Rate), is the Fed being hawkish or dovish? Explain.

b)     (10 points) Repeat part a) using the modified version of the Taylor using the unemployment gap instead of the GDP gap just like we did in the lectures. Also, use the PCE core rate of inflation instead of overall inflation like you used above – the Fed arguably cares more about core inflation than overall inflation.  According to the actual federal funds rate (use the Effective Federal Funds Rate), is the Fed being hawkish or dovish? Which “Taylor” rule explains Fed behavior better, the original or the modified Taylor Rule? Explain.

c)     (10 points) Let’s go back in time to the fourth quarter of 1965 (1965-10-01) when the “We are all Keynesians” was featured in Time magazine.  We argued that this was heyday of Keynesian economics so we would expect to get dovish results.  Using the original Taylor Rule that you used in part a) and the modified Taylor Rule that you used in part b), prove that the Fed was dovish according to both versions of the Taylor Rule.

d)     (10 points) We now go back to the Volcker period where he was known as being a hawk on inflation. Using the data from the second quarter of 1982 (1982-04-01), prove that the Volcker Fed was hawkish according to both versions of the Taylor Rule
