You have kicked off the District 4 Production Warehouse Move project, your contractors are in place and working on receiving the proper building permits.

 

You originally were told the permits would only take 2 weeks to obtain but the contractors are telling you it will now take 3 weeks. You need to build the additional week into your schedule for each permit that will be obtained.

 

In addition, your framing and drywall contractors have just told you they are running late on their other jobs and can only release half their crew for your project. This will double their schedule.

 

Build the extra time into your schedule by doubling the installation work timelines for both the framing and drywall. Your project plan should also be updated with the new 3-week timeline for obtaining permits. Use the project plan you created for this task.

 

You are now looking at an extended project delivery date. Your project sponsor was very clear that you must be done in a 4 month timeframe so you will need to look at options for reducing your schedule to fit into the 4 month window.

 

You have an option of hiring another contractor to help with the framing and drywall work but it will increase your budget by $200,000.

 

Determine your best course of action for bringing this project in on schedule and update your project plan to reflect your recommendation. Develop a 5-6 slide presentation for senior management outlining your proposed solution. You are seeking approval to proceed with your new plan.

 

Submit both your updated project plan and PowerPoint presentation.

Creating A Simple Web Page using HTML

Your main webpage must have the following:

1 A few headings which may be in a couple of places in the page. 

2 A link to a fictitious email address.

3 A link to the COMP 1001 course home page.

4 A horizontal rule (i.e. a line) at the bottom of the page.

5 Make sure that at least one picture is on the page somewhere (try to use a small one).  You can have many.

6 Choose several different colors for text and graphics.

7 A link to your topics page in Part2.

Save the file as mypage.html in notepad. Note avoid having the double extension .txt.html

Note that you can open the file using Firefox or any browser to see how the page looks.  You can do this often while creating the page after saving the page. You may have to use “reload” to get the latest version of your HTML file.

Part 2: Create the second page: a topics page (16 POINTS)

  1. Create another file named rembrandt.html.

  2. The topic will be “The Mill” by the Painter Rembrandt van Rijn. It is at the National Gallery in Washington.  Using the web search tool of your choice, search for web pages using the description of your topic as search words (Use three keywords in a single search). Find at least three pages at different sites.

  3. The web pagerembrandt.html should have:

1 A title indicating the topic.

2 At least one appropriate heading.

3 At least one paragraph of text related to your topic.

4 An ordered list of at least 3 links to the other pages (links that you’ve found using your search).

5 An Italicized and a bolded keywords in the paragraph of text.

6 A link at the bottom of the page that points back to your homepage. Separate it from the rest of the page using a horizontal rule.

7 Before the list of links, in the HTML source file, include a comment with the URL of the web search engine that you used, and the exact keywords you used for the search.

8 Add a link from the topic page back to your home page.  Make sure the link text makes sense.

A department store plans to upgrade its IT infrastructure to support a new order-processing application with rich features. The store currently uses eight stand-alone computers when customers check out. The specifications of these computers are:

  • Quad core processors
  • Minimum of one terabyte hard drives
  • Minimum of 5 GB RAM
  • Windows XP, Linux, or Mac OSX

The management of the store wants to upgrade four of the computers and use them to process client orders. The initial study done by the management reveals that the computers will perform the following tasks:

  • Run an order-processing application that requires a multiprocessing operating system. The application will take orders from customers over the Internet, process the orders, and create invoices.
  • Communicate with customers using e-mail to resolve customer queries.
  • Store customer data on the local computer. The store will use this data to promote new products.

The department store needs you to upgrade the four computers. Find the necessary equipment from online vendors to upgrade the computers. Submit a report as a 5- to 7-page MS Word document.

 

Your report will include a listing of what features need to be upgraded or added and your justification, an estimated cost report for the upgrades as well as a list of hardware/software needed. These can include external peripheral devices. Make sure to include the list of vendors that you used as references and that your report reflects due diligence in addressing the assignment statement. It is very important to cite your work using APA.
